Salle | Monday Afternoon
Whatever good mood and health Luke had gained during his trip to Kansas last weekend had left quickly after Luke had visited his mother during the week. Seeing her had brought back old memories and whatever sleep he managed to get was tinged with nightmares. Rather than lay in bed and have his attempts to sleep go nowhere, Luke decided to make use of time by training in the salle.
He was a little disappointed when he noticed how much his armor was hanging off of him, but he found it didn't hinder him all that much. He was just as fast as he always had been and his recent decline in health hadn't dulled his reflexes or skill any. Luke thought he might get tired a little faster than he used to, but right now he was using Backbiter to tear apart dummies with ease.

She paused briefly to watch Luke for a moment before she tugged Slayer out from it's sheath. "Guess this is a more popular place in the afternoon," she noted. Getting up disgustingly early to practice most days meant she was used to it being empty. This was more interesting, at least.

Or he liked trying to sleep, rather.

Kate shrugged, and started feeding some magic into her blade to check for weak spots. "But yours is the more popular opinion." Island full of teenagers. "Funny, that."

"And now I want to hit things." Which made her sound violent. Full of ways of making herself sound like the sort of person people would want to be around.

"And I find it completely unfair that men were all fine."

Then again he was the easygoing type.

"At least, not the kind of surprises I can't kick until they go away."

"Just because I don't like surprises, doesn't mean I don't have to deal with them just like everyone else."

She might've been slightly less cranky if she'd borrowed something that wasn't a couple sizes too small.

"So I don't really get that either. I'm not even sure how some girls get into the jeans they wear." Let alone wear them the entire day.

"There's a reason I'm here with a sword," she said, finding some space and starting a little warm up, "not upstairs painting my nails."

"Or I suck at girl." More likely.

"That's definitely cheating." If you could cheat at genetics. Kate got raising the dead as her main talent. Magical nail polish would've been way nicer.

'Cause they'd rather be working on their tan.

"You all have some kind of radar for each other or something?" she asked, not especially seriously. Her mind just didn't automatically leap to 'they must all meet up at summer camp!'.

He resisted making a face when he said that. He felt camp was more of a prison than a safe haven most of the time.

"Safety in numbers, I guess..." Kate had always been told the absolute opposite, but for some maybe it was true. "You're not into that?"
