The Roof, Tuesday night

Claudia's online guitar course was going well, but hot damn, were the practice lessons boring. After checking out her roommate's fabulous new hair that morning, she felt the need to flex a few punkier muscles herself. Things were too crowded in the dorms, so she'd headed up to the roof, a guitar tabs app loaded on her phone, to try out a new tune.

Advantage of punkier side: she only had to worry about transitioning between four chords. The Pixies beat out "Oh Susanna" any day.

[ooc: what can I say? I'm an eensy bit nostalgic tonight. Roof is always open, though Claudia is certainly not expecting an audience.]

Hearing the music while visiting the ball pit on the sixth floor DON'T JUDGE Jack wandered up to the roof to see who was playing/singing.

Keeping close to the wall to the roof entrance and staying away from the OMG EDGE OF THE ROOF, Jack sat back and listened until it was done.

"Nice!" he called out. "Who is that?"

"Is that like... Space Battles?" Jack asked "Or Lightning Bug? I don't think I've seen that one."

"Okay, so I'm out of the whole pop culture gig," Jack admitted. "Can't tell me that I'm not the only one around here."

C'mon! He had to keep Eureka from blowing up every week. Who has time for movies?

"Do I get credit for knowing who the pixies are?" Jack asked. "They're like little fairies."

...

"Who apparently sing."

No. Jack. Just shut up now.

Yeah, he might need that if he's supposed to pass as a teenager.

"Do I get credit for liking the music?" he asked.

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-10-05 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Um. Classic rock," Jack offered up in a lame fashion. "Stones. Beatles. No disco."

Of course he WAS forty. Mentally. But... it still stung.

"Well it makes me cool in a retro way right?"

No. Not really Jack.

"That's sounding great." Scully had waited until Claudia stopped playing to wander over, but she was smiling now, impressed. "I don't know the song, though."

"I was more interested in avoiding Mulder's taste in rockabilly, and listening to jazz, if that came out near the time you were born." Scully leaned against the rail around the roof, and smiled, looking up at the stars before looking back at Claudia. It was a little sadder when she caught Claudia hiding her teeth again. "Mulder says hi, by the way. He was sorry to miss you this weekend. Why didn't you learn guitar earlier?"

"That'll do it." Scully looked at her fingernails and grimaced. Things that would make even piano difficult. "How is the cranky and slightly insane commander of the collection of craziness?"

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2011-10-05 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Sentient silly-string?" Scully blinked, taken aback. Even remembering the killer dodge balls. "That's not even... how..?"

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2011-10-05 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, very much yes, that," Scully said, sounding disturbed. "Do you even have a panic button if something is going wrong in there that you can hit?"

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2011-10-05 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course it did." Scully made a face. "But you still like working there, don't you." It wasn't actually a question.
