second floor common room ; saturday afternoon
It was shaping up to be a lazy, lazy weekend. In the past, most of Sam's weekends had been lazy so he was an expert in how to deal with laziness and even if he was trying to change his lazy, lazy ways, he still could take a day and settle down on a common room couch with some takeout Chinese food (noodles only, of course) and some inane action movie on television. His attention wasn't all that into the movie so he knew almost immediately when Brooke popped up beside him, stretching out on the couch like she wasn't dead.
"Frank's gotten cuter," she said, reaching over to try and take some of Sam's food. It didn't work.
"Yeah? Why didn't you pop up last weekend and tell him that? Bet he would have liked it."
Brooke shrugged. "Lots of people around. I didn't want to scare anyone."
Sam nodded because he could understand that. This place was weird but there were probably some guests that wouldn't expect to see the ghost of a murdered girl appearing to talk with her very much alive friend. Sam made a note to let Frank know about Brooke's compliment.
"I miss food," Brooke sighed, looking longingly at Sam's food. "I'd even eat Plumpy's food at this point."
Sam made a face at her. "Death has made you go completely nuts."
Brooke stared at him and for a second, Sam thought he might have said something wrong. Then, she started laughing and nodded her agreement. "Yeah, God, you're right. I can't believe I said that out loud. Gross. Gross."
"Gross," Sam agreed and quieted down, not really minding at all when Brooke stayed where she was. He didn't think she got a lot of time to watch movies like this anymore.
[Post is open! If you'd like to see Brooke, you're welcome to notice her. She'll pop away quickly. If you don't wanna see her, feel free to mod that she's gone. Radio's free to report that Sam was just talking to himself!]

What he saw was really kind of trippy. From Sam's perspective, there was a girl sitting on the couch with him. But when Toby shut out Sam's thoughts, he couldn't see her anymore.
"Hey, man," he greeted, eyes flicking briefly to that seemingly-empty spot on the couch near Sam. "Anything good?" he nodded at the TV screen.

"Well," he said, tilting his head at the television screen, "there are a lot of explosions. I think the bad guy's got some awful facial hair and there's been a lot of screaming. So, it might be good? I can't tell."
Brooke was still looking quietly at Toby.

Or maybe it was the ghost part that Toby was having some issues with. Sam finally realized what was happening and winced.
"Uh. You're seeing a pretty girl on the couch with us, aren't you?" Might as well check, right?

She was doing that on purpose. Sam shot her a look for that.
"She -- yeah. She is. She's sort of my...guide too. Because, uh, she's dead."
So yep, Toby was seeing a dead person.

[ooc: sorry! minor puppy-related disaster!]

"That's debatable," Sam quipped before he shook his head. "It's been happening since I was a kid. Uh, it goes along with everything else about...me. Scare you?"
Sam hoped not. He didn't look too scared.
[No worries!]

"Wait, you can read minds?" Brooke interjected, sitting up. "That's so cool! Does it extend to ghosts too? Come on, what number am I thinking of?"
She was thinking of seventeen and a half just to test him.

"I can't hear your thoughts at all, though," he added to Brooke. "Which is really weird."

Sam scratched his cheek and glanced over at Brooke before looking at Toby again. "Yeah, uh, most people can see ghosts when they get around me. Sorry, should've warned you or something."
"He's great at a Halloween party," Brooke quipped, smirking.

"And I'm good with carnival tricks. Which means we'd make a great traveling road show," he added wryly to Brooke.

Not that Sam talked about football scores that much. It just seemed like a topic most guys would talk about.
"So, you can read Sam's mind?" Brooke asked, getting a lot of evil ideas. "What's he think about?"
"Brooke!" Yeah, that was all Sam had.

[ooc: off for thanksgiving dinner! might be back later, if not, SP good?]

Sam couldn't really argue with that. "Don't you have something to do, Brooke?"
Brooke sighed and got up. She gave Toby a little wave before she just disappeared like that.
"Uh." Sam almost blushed. "Sorry about that. She just likes to bother me sometimes."
[SP's good!]

Sam really couldn't have blamed her if she had gotten pissed at him considering the manner of her death. That had sucked.
"She got a good gig as my liaison between the two worlds."
