First Floor Lobby, All Day Wednesday (Except Third Period)

Petra was ~~apparently taking over the dorms community~~ manning the table for ticket sales today. She had tickets, she had a book to read if things got slow, she had a glittery sign:

HOMECOMING 2011
BUY YOUR TICKETS HERE!!

And she also had a ballot box for Homecoming Court. That one was important.

Jack was passing by and giving Petra a friendly wave hello when he noticed the ballot box and... well that his name was listed among all the people.

Which kind of weirded him out. In his head he was so not a teenager and definitely should not be on a ballot for homecoming.

"Uhhh, yeah. Curious. Is it all right if we just... cross my name off the ballot?"

"Do you go to school here?" Petra asked, like she totally didn't already know the answer.

"Okay, sure. Yes," Jack said feeling like an idiot. "It's just the whole thing doesn't appeal to me. I mean, not that people are going to vote for me anyways but-"

Jack fumbled for words. As usual.

"It's just weird."

Excellent explanation, Jack.

"They might!" Petra pointed out. "And you get a crown."

"I'm not even going," Jack said wincing at the thought of winning "So see? No reason for me to be on the ballot."

"But why are you not going to the dance?" Petra asked. She gave him a Look. "Do you not like fun? Or do you not want to support your Student Council?"

"Because I've been there, I've done that and... Don't look at me like that! I suck at dancing!"

And everything else involving being a teenager.

"But how will you get better if you blow off the dance?" Petra asked.

"Um. By not dancing ever?" Jack offerred. "Besides I just got a dog and I really shouldn't leave him alone for a long period of time."

And as if by cue a rather shaggy looking dog (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y244/iamgumboy/Irish_Wolfhound.jpg) trotted in and up to the table. He then dropped several bills on the table and turned to look at Jack. And barked.

Jack sighed. "I told you to stay out of my wallet," he said in scolding tones.

Petra had to stare at the dog for a moment before she recovered and looked back up at Jack. "I think your dog just bought you a ticket to the dance," she informed him as she ripped said ticket off the roll and held it out to him. To the dog, she said, "Who's a good boy?"

Lojack barked happily in agreement with Petra.

Jack however was not pleased. "Actually I think my dog just bought a ticket to the dance. The traitor."

Lojack barked again. This time at Jack and gave him a little growl.

Petra beamed at the dog. "Do you wanna go to the dance? Or do you want Jack to suck it up and go to the dance? I think you want Jack to go to the dance!" She was sort of high-pitched babytalking it, but. Doggy!

In response Lojack jumped up and grabbed the tickets in his mouth and then dropped them on Jack's feet.

"Please don't encourage him," Jack groaned. "He's bad enough as it is."

"Aw, he's a sweetheart!" Petra gushed at the dog. And in a more normal tone, she told Jack, "And he and I have totally overruled your objections."

"Yeah, well. Foiled again," Jack said in defeat as the dog trotted over in the hopes of some ear scratching. "But I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for your meddling and that crazy dog."

Petra was totally giving out ear scratches! "Who's a good boy?" she asked the dog. Who's a good conniving boy?" She looked up at Jack, still scratching the dog's head. "What's his name?"

"Lojack. He's from my hometown. He's kind of the town dog. With an IQ of 130," Jack replied as Lojack happily accepted the ear scratches. "So yes, he understands everything we're saying. And then some."

Right, like Petra actually believed that. "So, you're Jack and your dog is Lojack?" She seemed delighted by this information.

"I didn't name him," Jack said with a grin. "He was Lojack long before I moved into town. And really, he's not exactly my dog. He's... a bit independent. I'm still trying to figure out how he got here on his own."

"Maybe he missed you!" Petra suggested. "Like that movie with the two dogs and the Himalayan?"

"I... don't know that one," Jack admitted. "Is that the one where they all go to heaven?"

If it were possible for a dog to roll his eyes? That's what Lojack was attempting to do right now.

"Hi" Bart walked up to the table, looking a little confused, but friendly at the new face. "So.. I have a few questions."

He looked at the sign and then at Petra. "What's homecoming?"

"It's a thing where alumni can come back and reminisce or whatever, and we get a dance and elect the Homecoming Queen. And King," Petra explained. "And sometimes there's a parade."

"Huh. And I need a ticket to go?" He looked back at the sign. "And why are there sparkles all over this?"

"You need a ticket for the dance," Petra explained patiently. "The price of your ticket helps pay for the decorations and food for the dance, so we can have more dances in the future and not go broke. And the sign's sparkly because it's pretty."

"Oh." Bart said only mostly understanding what was going on.

"Last question. Why is my name on that list?" He pointed to the ballot box.

"Well, first thing, what's your name?" Petra asked, glancing over at the list.

"Oh, right. I'm Bart Allen, nice to meetcha." He smiled.

"Hi, Bart, I'm Petra West," Petra said, smiling at him. "Nice to meet you, too. Okay, so you're on the list because you are a..." she craned her neck to check. "Freshman, and that means you're a candidate for Freshman Homecoming King. If you win you get a crown and bragging rights, and you have to dance with your queen. Who will be my roommate because she's the only freshman girl, so if you win be super nice to her, okay? For me?"

"Oh. um... Sure." He got to be king? Like, with a throne and scepter and stuff? That would be awesome. He grinned.

"So if people vote for me, then I get to be King? Cool." He fished through his pocked for some cash to buy a ticket.

"Thanks!"

"You're welcome," Petra said, ripping a ticket off the roll and handing it over. "Have a great day."

If you just want to get it done.

La. I should be around later, although sleep is definitely next on the agenda.
