First floor lobby- Friday night

Jaina told herself she'd claim one of the empty rooms tonight when she felt like getting some sleep, but let's face it. She wouldn't get any sleep at all even if she tried. So instead she camped herself out in the lobby, partly because she could see from where she was sitting what, if anything, was going on in what was left of outside, and partly because after years of being out of school (technically) taking over one of the common rooms felt weird.

She doubted the TV worked, and it wasn't like she had anything except a comm and phone that wouldn't work to distract her, so for the love of Pete, someone get down here and give her something to do that wasn't just trying not to think of what and who wasn't there anymore.

[Open if anyone's still around!]

A tired and battered looking Jack wandered into the lobby and leaned against the wall before sliding down to the floor.

"I just want to sleep for a week."

Jack was doing his best not to think of the clouds or the force field right now. Anything but that.

"Believe it or not? I've had crazier," Jack said with a tired chuckle. "Though fighting people with gummy bears is a new one for me."

"Can't take credit for that," Jack said shaking his head. "Another student ripped my gun out of my head and I had to settle. Now that I think of it alcohol would have been good. Maybe a squirt gun full of chocolate syrup too."

"Snapped it out of my hand and took it apart before I could react," Jack said shaking his head ruefully. "I got the impression he really didn't like guns. And somehow he took out more crazy people without one than I did with one."

Jonothon was not so optimistic as to think that there'd be a spare couch or even a room for him to take as he dragged himself into the lobby, a knife in one hand, a small cat in his pocket, and rather wanting to perhaps start screaming and just never stop.

"So, is anybody taking bets yet on the odds of the dorms actually lasting through the night?"

He wasn't so optimistic about a good many things, apparently.
furnaceface: (Hmm.)

"... Is there a club for that? I think there's a club for that."

Jonothon was pretty sure it consisted of the entire surviving population of the island.

"Bruce Wayne," Jack groaned as he sat up a little. "Rich guy with a wicked right hook."

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-12-10 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I like that idea for a club," Jack said with a small chuckle. "We can have cots set up and serve warm milk at every meeting."
furnaceface: (Not buying it)

"Fair enough," Jono decided, crouching down to slip the knife into his boot, and then pull the somewhat puffed-up cat from his pocket, letting Joni nuzzle into his shoulder instead. "It isn't as though we don't regularly beat the odds around here anyhow. Not much point in calculating them, really."

... Right?

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-12-10 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Did you teach him how to do that?" Jack asked as he pointed... okay nowhere near where Bruce probably was but it definitely not in this room. "Because... DAMN. That was impressive."
furnaceface: (Lopsided Look)

"Exchange tips on sheep-counting," Jono snorted, shaking his head a little. "Hold long, heated debates on which sort of pillow is superior; goose down or foam core."
furnaceface: (Bow)

[personal profile] furnaceface 2011-12-10 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Which was fine. Jono hardly expected anyone to who hadn't already been re-introduced.

"Cumulatively? A couple of years at least. But I just moved back to the island in October. Welcome home, hm?" He tilted his head at her. "And you? Visiting? Making a home here?"

Or, rather, somewhere out there, where there was no longer a town to make a home in.
furnaceface: (Generally Unimpressed)

If you asked Jono, most visits to the island tended to come hand-in-hand with humiliation, at best. Moving here had been practically inviting the worst, he supposed.

"Jonothon Starsmore," he offered, upon recognizing the name. "Went to school here, apparently insane enough to become musical director at the Boards. You'd think we'd learn after the first time around."

Not that there were really any other options at the moment beyond simply ceasing to exist.

"We probably did," he allowed, thinking on it as he raised a hand to scratch a now snoozing cat behind the ears. "That one with Professor Atreides, if I remember correctly? Hubris. Hubris something. About different religions."

Lord, that had been years ago. Even by Fandom's standards.

"I'd say it pulling us back was something they put in their water supply here, but I sincerely doubt that's the case."
furnaceface: (Pleasant)

Seven years ago for Jono. Nearly eight. And thinking back on it was like looking at some other person's life, it seemed.

"... Tails would be new." He was going to withhold comment on the colour-changing for the moment, however. "Now, you know I'm going to be paranoid once this is all said and done. You've gone and given it ideas."
furnaceface: (Ponder)

[personal profile] furnaceface 2011-12-10 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
"I actually miss crazy normal. I'm about ready to trade this in for that again, actually. Maybe for once we'll luck out and it'll actually work that way?"

Yeah, he doubted it too.
furnaceface: (Big Mouth)

Karla had vanished Jonothon's guitar. He'd gladly get it back from her so that he could play accompaniment, if that was all it took.

"... Stranger things have happened around here," he allowed. "I mean, I spent half the day killing Auditors by throwing cream pies at their faces before I got my hands on an actual blade. If that isn't a ludicrous solution, I'm not entirely certain what is."
furnaceface: (Hmm.)

[personal profile] furnaceface 2011-12-10 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Cream pies, and confusing them into wandering off by spouting mostly nonsensical Cockney slang at them. Now that touching them wasn't strictly lethal, this was seeming slightly less hopeless. Slightly.

"It almost makes me want to raid the common room fridges for more potential weapons," he confessed. "But then, we'll probably end up doing that just so that we can stay fed, ourselves. Unless one of the students has some raisins or chocolate chips or something stashed away up there."
furnaceface: (Snapple)

[personal profile] furnaceface 2011-12-10 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
"And it isn't as though we can make a run into town to restock, at this point," Jono agreed. "I have two cans of that aerosol whipped-cream. Hardly good for actually eating, but it seems to be able to take down Auditors in a pinch, if nothing else."

It wouldn't do them any good when they all started to get hungry in the morning.

[Bedtime for me! SP or wrap, whichever you prefer!]
furnaceface: (Worry)

Jonothon followed her gaze for a moment, and then sighed. See, this was why Jono should never attempt optimism.

"Point." Wince. "Well. Just in case."

[Ohnooo! Options!/o\]

"Might as well," Jono agreed. "It isn't as though I'm going to be sleeping tonight, and if nothing else, we should be able to scrounge up some first-aid supplies or something, just in case."

Just this once, he figured nobody would mind horribly if a pair of alumni went scavenging through the dorm building.
