Sorority Meeting [6th floor kitchen after classes]

Rilla was poking around at the stove in the sixth floor kitchen when the other members of the sorority began to filter in. “Hello,” she said, smiling broadly. “I’m so glad to see you. I’m Rilla Blythe, and I’m a sophomore, and Annie--” she waved a hand at Annie, “--and I are your leaders this semester.”

"Hi, everyone," Annie said brightly. "First of all I want to say thanks for being here, and welcome to the new people, and hi again to the ones we already know. We're going to have a lot of fun this semester, we'll make sure of it." Meaning they'd have fun if it killed her. Or them. Either one.

“Today we’re going to just get to know our new members,” Rilla said, then pointed to the cakes that were cooling on the counters amid cans of frosting, “while making cake pops, which seem to be cake-flavoured lollipops of some kind.” She was from 1914. They didn’t do this sort of thing there.

"They are! It's cake on a stick," Annie explained. "It's easy to make and you can decorate them however you want. So, you know, go ahead and express yourself! ...Through cake."

“And talking to each other, too,” Rilla added. “We have some fun ideas for the semester, but we’d love to hear from all of you as well!”

Wonder what on Earth a cake pop is...

Dorothy wondered quite a bit as to how one actually made a cake lollipop.

She looked about to see if anyone had a better idea as to how to do this. She'd happily help someone, and learn more as she did so. So, smile on her face, she went about, peering up on her toes to see who she could help.

"Hello, Miss Gale," Rilla said merrily. "It's so nice to see you again!"

Dorothy smiled, matching Rilla's enthusiasm. "It's nice to see you again, too," she said. "I see Annie wasn't exaggerating when she talked about what the sorority would be doing. Though I'm a little confused as to why anyone would want a cake on a stick."

"I am too," Rilla said. "Perhaps it's neater to eat than a simple slice?"

"Perhaps," Dorothy said. "But I don't see what isn't neat about a plate and fork. Maybe it's for smaller portions?"

She was really trying to figure this out.

Rilla nodded. "That way you can try two different flavours and not be full?" she suggested.

"That would be quite useful, actually," Dorothy agreed, thinking that sounded lovely. "I just wonder how you get the same taste when making them so small."

"I don't know," Rilla confided. "This is my first time trying these myself."

"Well then, we'll learn together," Dorothy said with a grin. "I'm sure it will be lovely, if it was Annie's idea."

She trusted her big sibling completely.

Rebecca arrived and maybe wrinkled her nose a little bit upon noticing Rilla. Look, there was only so much shrieking a girl could take before passing judgment.

Taking in the rest of the setup of the room, she said, "Well, isn't this adorable."

It wasn't entirely sincere, but she managed to hide that quite well. Yay political upbringing!

Rilla gave her a sincere(ish...) smile in reply. "It's a good way to make introductions, at least. It's something to keep our hands busy."

"True," Rebecca said. "And at least they're not cupcakes. Cute and trendy, but so overdone."

Which was exactly why Annie had suggested them!

Rilla nodded vehemently. "Besides, these have more frosting."

"Also a plus," Rebecca agreed, finishing up her work on one unfrosted cake ball. "Want to do the honors?"

Look, she could be civil if the other person was too. Sometimes. It really varied. Congratulations, Rilla?

"Certainly!" Rilla said, smiling more genuinely at Rebecca. "Do you have a flavour preference?"

"Surprise me."

Rilla reached for the lemon frosting, mostly because it was cheerful. "I've never done these before. We don't have canned frostings at home. I think Susan would faint dead away at the very idea."

Well... Stacey supposed she could make cake pops. It just couldn't be like that time she'd helped Charlotte make fudge and then took some of it and ended up in the hospital. Maybe she could get other people to eat her cake pops.

"Hello," Rilla said, smiling at the new face. "Welcome!"

"Hi!" Stacey greeted her, all smiles. "It's really cool that we have this here. I didn't think I'd be in a sorority till college."

~~Unless she got knocked up in high school and never got that far.~~

"Oh, are you going to college?" Rilla asked. "My youngest brother is at Queens right now, and my older brothers and sisters are all at university."

~~Great. Now she sounded like the Pikes.~~

"Well, I hope so anyway. I'm just a freshman, but I plan on it." Or she'd date a lot of college guys and call it the same thing. "That sounds like a lot of siblings."

"I'm the youngest of six," Rilla explained. "They all have loads of brains."

Quinn scooped some strawberry frosting into a bowl of chocolate cake crumbs and began to stir. These might make an excellent boyfriend gift.

It was weird to be there as an ordinary member, but Annie and Rilla seemed to have things under control

Rilla beamed at her from her own bowl of vanilla cake and chocolate icing. "Maybe I'll use these for the next round of Student Council races."

"They would be awesome," Quinn decided. "You could put the sticks in little cups and decorate them to look like flowers."

She smiled over at Rilla. "Already thinking about next fall, huh?"

She smiled. "I like being on the Council and ~~being a little bossy~~ getting involved. It'll be odd without you and Annie, though."

"It'll be odd to be a freshman again on this end," Quinn admitted with a little laugh. "I guess it's the circle of life or something, but I wish status would carry over."

"Have you applied to your schools yet?" Rilla asked.

Quinn nodded, and poked her spoon into a lump of cake that didn't want to crumble the right way. "Yeah. Now I get the fun of waiting."

It was going to give her an ulcer.

"Are you going to go?" she asked. "With the war and Jims and everything."

Rilla shook her head. "Mother and Father have four in college or university as it is. I'm content to be the lily of the field on this."

"Four," Quinn repeated, rolling the idea around in her head a little. "Makes sense. Plus, it's not like they're going to stop having colleges. You could go later."

"Well, five when Jem comes back from the front," Rilla said. "He set aside medical school for the time being."

She poked a bit at her ball of cake. "When I'm finished here, I think it would be better to just go home if the war's not over by then."

"I lose track," Quinn admitted. "What year will it be for you, there, when you graduate here?"

Rilla thought about it. "1917 or so?" she ventured. "We haven't had Christmas yet at home."

Hanna was very intrigued by the idea of cake on a stick. She wasn't the best at baking, but she was going to attempt it this time. Maybe it would even be edible.

Rilla waved. "Welcome back!"

Hanna smiled. "Good to be back."

For fundraising or mixer ideas or opportunities for ~~college application padding~~ volunteering!

"Parties," Rebecca declared, with emphasis. Look, just because some of these girls looked a little... repressed didn't mean she was going to put up with that. "I'm thinking we start with a bar crawl. Oooh, or maybe a crush party with the frat. That might be a good start. And then we could always take out Daddy's yacht..."

Well the bar crawl was probably not going to fly with Annie and Rilla in charge, but.

"What's a crush party?"

"Haven't you ever seen a movie?" Rebecca asked, sounding much more surprised than bitchy, really. Then she breezed forward, explaining, "It's like this. The girls each get a limited number of invitations, and they stealthily give them out to guys they like and want to show up. Then the guys accept and show up, and without anyone having to actually ask anyone else in person." Turning her attention to the cake pop she was sculpting for a moment, she added, "And there's usually themes."

While they are decorating their cake pops or sampling the frosting for quality control.

Annie had never actually made a cake pop before, but she had some lofty ideas for how she wanted hers. There was only so much candy coating a cake pop could take, Annie.

Rilla was adding far too much frosting to her pop, but she had a bit a of a sweet tooth, even if she was sure Susan would be appalled by her excess right now.

Who was probably still wondering how she ended up advising this.

Morrigan was still wondering how she ended up as the advisor for this, but 'twas all well and good. The girls seemed to have fun, and if they were a bit silly, so be it.

Can't have the world end, ya know.
