Sorority meeting- 1st floor rec room- Thursday after classes

"Welcome back, everybody," Annie greeted them when they were ready to start, doing a little tiny headcount. "I don't think we scared anybody off with all the baking last week, so that's a good start to the semester!" She'd say that even if they lost half their members after one week, though.

Rilla glanced up from the gray sock she was knitting as she rocked Jims’ cradle with her foot.and smiled as well. “Today, we decided to talk a little bit about giving back,” she said. “In my time, my country is fighting in a great war. The boys at the front need warm blankets and new socks, so I’ve learned to knit!”

She’d gotten much better at it, fortunately. There weren’t many soldiers out there with two heels on one foot.

Annie... was not going to be doing nearly as well. "I haven't done this ever, by the way. So if you haven't done it, don't worry, we'll get through this together. Besides, if people need socks, then it's worth learning something new to give them to them." If only one could make socks with optimism, because this was going to be interesting.

And she hadn’t even learned about double pointed needles yet! Rilla had a stack of them ready for the girls, and passed out a pattern that was written in knitting code. “We’ll start with casting on 40 stitches and dividing it out onto three needles,” she said. “And then making sure they all are facing the correct direction.”

That could take most of the meeting.

Rilla had obviously taken to speaking a different language with that, because Annie understood not a word of it. "...Ask Rilla if you have any questions!"

Quinn had finally come down from her happy Yale bliss when she got to the meeting.

"I think a doll was peeking at me in the shower," she announced to no one in particular, before sitting down with yarn and needles. In theory she knew how to knit, but in practice it was pretty hard while her hands were still shaking.

"It was sitting on the floor right outside the stall saying 'Mama,'" Quinn reported woefully. "The whole time. I about threw my shampoo bottle at it."

"... I didn't want the bottle to break."

And now that sounded kinda stupid, didn't it? Quinn tried to muster some bravado.

"I mean, they're dolls. Can they really do anything besides being creepy?"

Quinn's eyes got big and her hands tightened on the needles. She should have laughed it off, but there was something about Annie when she got this intense that made that very hard to do.

"Now I won't be able to sleep anyhow," she said, and held up a needle. "I'm keeping this. If they attack, I'm prepared."

"Yale!" Quinn agreed brightly, taking just a second to shift gears from being utterly creeped out. "It was a reach, but the Ivy League must notice when you keep a straight A average at a school like this."

Not that she'd gone too far out of her way to tell Yale how weird the school was, but it was Yale. She figured they knew everything.

"Have you heard anything yet? I know it's still early."

"I wasn't expecting to find out so early," Quinn admitted. "It's a huge, huge relief."

She smiled. "You'll get in someplace good."

Matt entered the Rec room in a dramatic fashion, kicking a creepy doll off his leg and back into the hallway.

"What in the world are these things crawling around?" he half asked/complained.

Hi, Annie.

"Yes, it was," Matt frowned as he absent-mindedly tapped his cane on the ground. "And whatever it was, I'll gladly go back to being a girl if it means those things go away."

Matt's face scrunched up in disgust.

"Yes. I'd Definitely go back to being a girl," Matt replied. "Not that it's an option."

Matt? Accidentally stumble into a room full of girls?

Maybe.

"Am I not supposed to be here?" Matt asked in return and, yes, playing dumb.

"Oooooh!" Matt said innocently. "This is the sorority? I'm sorry I had no idea."

He had some idea.

"I was just trying to get away from that... thing."

Partially.

Dorothy was not an accomplished knitter, but she knew a thing or two that Aunt Em had taught her.

With her tongue sticking out just slightly through her teeth in concentration, she set about the work of knitting what was asked.

"Horse cookies," she muttered with a frown, upon realizing she'd already messed it up in the first five minutes.

Hanna was not especially good at knitting. She was even worse when she was jittery from the freaking creepy dolls!

She wasn't getting much done today.

Rebecca opted not to knit.

She was texting instead, with her feet up on the seat in front of her.

Why she chose to do this here and not in her room was not something she would answer. Truthfully, anyway.

"This sucks," Rebecca informed Annie without looking up from her phone. "You know this isn't how sororities work, right?"

The optimistic stylings of Rebecca Logan, ladies and gentlemen.

"I mean acting like old people," Rebecca corrected her. "Seriously, knitting? What is this?"

[identity profile] zetabetabrat.livejournal.com 2012-02-03 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, real sororities don't actually do that stuff," Rebecca said wisely, for she knew all. "They just fill out the forms as if they did."

Rebecca didn't say anything. Just yawned.

Loudly.

"But I'm at a meeting," Rebecca pointed out, sounding very, very fake about her interest level there.

"If you're sure," Rebecca said sweetly, and sat there and fired off four more especially long-winded texts before making her exit. "Bye, Ashley!"

Annie, Rebecca. Annie.

If one of those...things...came anywhere near her, Rilla was going to stab it while shrieking at the top of her lungs.

And really, no one wanted that.

Until then she was chanting about knitting and purling under her breath and happy to help people with more domestic problems.

Morrigan was actually remarkably competent at knitting and sewing, and was quickly and efficiently making a growing pile of socks in a variety of sizes.

And anytime a doll came anywhere near her, it got incinerated rather quickly. Without hesitation.
