Fifth Floor Common Room, Wednesday evening

Bruce was watching cable news. Nothing but talk of financial meltdowns, political bickering, angry old people yelling at each other, and something about cute animals every fifteen minutes or so.

It wasn't terribly exciting or interesting or anything. It was exactly what the night called for. Because dear god, Bruce needed a quiet night in after the way his week had been going.

With that in mind, he was drinking water, eating some crackers, and wearing a plain black hoodie. Nothing exciting at all. This was a matter of willpower, and nobody had more willpower than Bruce Wayne.

Well, by definition any given Green Lantern probably did. But screw those guys, willpower wasn't even an emotion.

Actually, right now, Cara would argue that the fact there were no dead bodies in her wake as proof her willpower was stronger. "Bruce."

"Cara," Bruce said. "What's new in the world?"

Focus on the unsexy talk. World events. Nothing sexy there.

"This looks boring," Dany offered, sounding somewhat relieved as she padded into the common room. She had all three dragons with her, because they provided still more distraction, and kept her from running off to tap on certain people's doors. Or worse.

Of course, the fact that Bruce was out here meant a certain person had the room to himself. Not that Dany necessarily knew that.

"It is. Refreshingly so," Bruce said.

"Nothing important," Cara replied, lounging across the couch. It had been a while since she'd had a good lounge. "What about you?"

"Right now I'm trying to be very interested in the stock market of a world that isn't mine," Bruce said. "Sounds like trouble."

It was probably a good thing all around that she didn't know that. Or a bad thing. Perspective dependent.

"Oh, look. Something about that campaign I don't understand," Dany offered, gesturing to the television as she took a seat. "I'm not sure that there's anything better for my mood right now that looking at Ron Paul's face. Refreshing indeed."

"Sounds boring," Cara said. "I'm sure there are plenty of better things you could be doing with your time." If he was stumped she'd be happy to help.

"I see you've caught onto the plan," Bruce said, flashing a smile. AND THEN IMMEDIATELY PUTTING THE SMILE AWAY. "In record time, too."

"I've always been a clever learner," Dany replied with a tiny smile of her own as she pulled her three dragons into her lap. "This is a change from what I imagine has been on most screens this week. It wasn't a particularly challenging puzzle."

"But the Dow Jones is down, Cara," Bruce said, trying to make that sound as desperate as it surely was in this non-DCAU world.

Yeaaah, even if they had stock markets (that didn't deal directly with farm animals) in Cara's world, she wouldn't care. "Why does it matter what they're doing?"

"That's probable," Bruce said. "Although I don't really want to think about what's been on most screens."

Because it might give him ideas.

Freddie was having issue himself, and he'd gone for a walk to try and clear his head. He'd ended up in the common room and went to pour himself a glass of water.

"Anything exciting happening in the world?" he asked, when he saw the news broadcast.

"It affects the economy, which trickles down to affect life here in Fandom," Bruce said. "It's very serious."

Seven hells, now she was thinking about it. Damn it.

"Have we met?" she asked, after clearing her throat for a moment. "I'm Daenerys. I live down the hall in 511, with Petra."

"Nothing new and exciting," Bruce said. "Just the same old people yelling at each other."

"I actually recognized you from the dragons," Bruce said. "Bruce Wayne. Friend of Lucrezia."

"Unless you actually plan on doing something about it, you should stop worrying about it," Cara said, stretching. "Focus on something else."

"She's mentioned you!" No, no no no, do not mention under what context, no. "You took Lucrezia to Homecoming, didn't you?"

Safe, innocent topic of conversation. For her, anyway.

"And I bet it's, like, a real debate and not hammers versus whipped cream," Freddie said.

He made a mental note to propose a random debate on Friday's iCarly.

"I always wondered how these guys actually... I mean, is it their whole job just to yell on TV?"

"I could do something about it. Fandom's very important to me," Bruce noted while trying not to look at Cara.

The stress of this whole Dow Jones was obviously getting to him. Clearly he needed to be distracted for his own good. "I was under the impression markets closed at night," she said, standing and moving closer to Bruce. "There's nothing you can do right now."

"I did. It was a good time," Bruce said, struggling to focus on just the dance. Actually, that was a bad idea, too.

"So what has she said about me?" Curiosity was getting the better of him.

"At this point, yes," Bruce said. "They used to get paid to yell more quietly off TV. Now they're in the big leagues."
