The Roof, Thursday Evening
There were a lot of things Rebecca could stand to lose. There was the obvious, of course (which she'd taken care of at age fourteen in the back of a limo), and her credit cards, and any number of her really expensive but ultimately replaceable clothes, especially if they were lost in the name of having a fun night.
However, none of those things were what Rebecca was missing on this particular evening. Nope.
Tonight, what she was missing was her dorm key. While she was already on the roof. And it was... really kinda cold. And she was pretty sure the squirrels were laughing at her.
"Well, shit," she grumbled.

He'd been planning on getting some casual brooding time in, but he could deal with a friendly face instead.

"Hey," she said, hopping up onto the ledge. "Yeah, I am. You?"

But not actually purr, because cats are terrifying."Good to hear it," Rebecca said, flashing him a smile. "And I've had worse... middles of nights." Deeming that comment to be unworthy of her massive wit, she wrinkled her nose. "Let's forget that part and just go with 'Hi.'"

"It wasn't your best effort, no," Bruce said. "So sure. Hi. You know, you've never struck me as the 'loitering on the roof' type."

Pause.
"You... do seem like the 'loitering on the roof' type."

AHAHAHAHAHAHA.

He made it look cool, of course. He didn't think he could pull off sitting on the parapet as well.

"I like to keep a positive attitude," Rebecca said, her voice going just slightly huskier.

True story. True, true story.
"You?"

"I've been pretty good. A little busy, but that's nothing new. But now I have to ask what's wrong with a sorority party."
It sounded like an interesting time to Bruce. Because of course it did.

"I'm not, actually," Rebecca said, grinning a little. "Hence my relief."
"Well, the party might not be too bad," she granted. "Assuming that the girls running it can come up with decent ideas, and all that. Why, do you want to come?" That might make it a tad less boring. "It's a girls-ask-guys kind of thing."

Or maybe that was just the theme she'd suggested. Who knew?

Slandering Rilla and Annie, at least one-half of whom was arguably the best planner in history? Classy.

And he had once compared Annie's ability to plan favorably to his own.

Rebecca's expression faltered for an instant at that news, and then she was composed again. "It's possible I'm not being entirely fair to them," she said. She didn't believe it, but she said it. Yay for her political upbringing teaching her how how to perfectly hone her insincerity! "Of course, I'm only judging based off of knowing them for a few months, so maybe they'll surprise me."

She, you know, wasn't, but the impression was excellent!
"I'll make sure to keep that in mind."
Lies. All lies.
