Around the Dorms, Monday Morning

The ~~Freedom Costumes~~ uniforms had been given out, the teachers had been prepped, and everything was as set as could be for the school board's special guests to arrive and start their tour. Zoe wasn't one for prayer, but it seemed like that was all she could do at this point. And hope that Annie wasn't the kind of person who needed caffeine to function.

[This post is for the tour of the dorms/school, for Annie, the Howells, any school board members who want to ~~supervise~~ come along, and any students who want to be in the dorms during the tour. There will be a tour of the town posted this afternoon!]

It was nice and cool inside, and there were welcoming balloons and streamers! Clearly everyone was excited about the visit!

Our dear guests are old, so making them go up too many stairs to see everything would just be mean, right? Right.

Look! Horses! What a quaint and quiet little island we have!

Please oh please let everyone have put their guns away...

Because showing them flying things would probably be less traumatic than showing them boats, in the long run.

Time to set everyone free to ~~terrorize~~ check out the classes!

It certainly feels hot enough for the world to end, but not on our watch!

Everyone was in luck! There'd been no caffeine yet today (and wouldn't be at all if Annie found out about the wings first) and Annie wasn't even down on the uniforms. Annie was a little weird sometimes.

She'd even made sure to get to the lobby early, with a glittery sign reading "WELCOME, SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS."

Annie was not only weird, she was a total kissass.

Mrs. White just raised on eyebrow elegantly at the sign. "How....charming," she managed. "Let's get this over with."

"We can do that!" Annie said perkily. "I'm Annie, Co-President of the Student Council and I'll be leading the tour. I hope you've been enjoying your time here."

That was totally part of the tour. She'd practiced that.

No guns, but there was a cranky, cranky Mord'Sith punching the the practice dummies.

...a lot.

...in her ~~stupid~~ ~~hideous~~ lovely new uniform. Mustn't forget that.

Thurston Howell III and his lovely wife, er, Lovey came into the lobby and gazed around appraisingly.

"Does look like much money's gone into here," Thurston remarked.

Lisa appreciated the enthusiasm that had gone into this, anyhow. Even if her wings experience from earlier still had her feeling a bit fragile.

"All right," she said, from behind a brave attempt at a smile. "Let's get this show on the road."

"And this would be one of our common rooms," Annie said, leading them in. "This is where students can come to relax or study or just talk with each other after a long day."

A long day of school, of course.

"And by that I'd take it to mean you're who we have to thank for this wonderful school?" Annie said brightly.

The way Squall sat with his back ramrod-straight while watching television, and the way that he stood quickly to attention when the guests entered the room, were just him trying to behave for the benefactors. It was evidence of his proper military upbringing, and NOT a deliberate mockery of the uniforms. Probably not, anyway.

"Welcome," he greeted them.

"That's the kind of go-getter attitude we like to see around here," Annie said, totally without irony.

This was her without caffeine. Without.

"Oh, how quaint!" Lizzi cooed. "Of course, the sign could use just a touch or two of extra glitter. But then, this visit was on such short notice that you could hardly have had time to prepare."

"And who might you be?" Lizzi asked, practically overflowing with friendliness and cheer.

"This is true," Annie admitted, looking at the sign that she'd thought was perfect. "I was also in short supply after our very successful prom. You never can have too much glitter!"

"That's true," Lizzi agreed, with a very serious nod. "That is definitely true... what did you say your name was?"

"Indeed we are!" Thurston said, holding out his hand for Annie to shake. He hoped she had a firm handshake; he did hate to feel like he was shaking hands with a cold fish. "Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Howell III."

Lisa smiled again, aware of how close she was standing to the Howells.

"Well, Mr. and Mrs. Howell are very busy people," she said. "We don't want to waste their time" -- and give the island a chance to get even weirder -- "do we?"

She offered a hand. "Hi, my name's Lisa Miller."

As handshakes go, Annie's was pretty good. You didn't get anywhere in life with a weak handshake, did you?

"Annie Edison, Co-Student Council president," she said with a smile. "And can I just say, thank you so much for all you've done here."

Even if he didn't know what all it went to.

"You're very welcome, my dear," Thurston said with an answering smile. "But it's time to check in on our investment, don't you think?"
