Around the Dorms, Monday Morning

The Freedom Costumes uniforms had been given out, the teachers had been prepped, and everything was as set as could be for the school board's special guests to arrive and start their tour. Zoe wasn't one for prayer, but it seemed like that was all she could do at this point. And hope that Annie wasn't the kind of person who needed caffeine to function.

[This post is for the tour of the dorms/school, for Annie, the Howells, any school board members who want to supervise come along, and any students who want to be in the dorms during the tour. There will be a tour of the town posted this afternoon!]

Everyone was in luck! There'd been no caffeine yet today (and wouldn't be at all if Annie found out about the wings first) and Annie wasn't even down on the uniforms. Annie was a little weird sometimes.

She'd even made sure to get to the lobby early, with a glittery sign reading "WELCOME, SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS."

Annie was not only weird, she was a total kissass.

Mrs. White just raised on eyebrow elegantly at the sign. "How....charming," she managed. "Let's get this over with."

Thurston Howell III and his lovely wife, er, Lovey came into the lobby and gazed around appraisingly.

"Does look like much money's gone into here," Thurston remarked.

Lisa appreciated the enthusiasm that had gone into this, anyhow. Even if her wings experience from earlier still had her feeling a bit fragile.

"All right," she said, from behind a brave attempt at a smile. "Let's get this show on the road."

"Oh, how quaint!" Lizzi cooed. "Of course, the sign could use just a touch or two of extra glitter. But then, this visit was on such short notice that you could hardly have had time to prepare."

"And this would be one of our common rooms," Annie said, leading them in. "This is where students can come to relax or study or just talk with each other after a long day."

A long day of school, of course.

The way Squall sat with his back ramrod-straight while watching television, and the way that he stood quickly to attention when the guests entered the room, were just him trying to behave for the benefactors. It was evidence of his proper military upbringing, and NOT a deliberate mockery of the uniforms. Probably not, anyway.

"Welcome," he greeted them.

If it hadn't been for Squall's presence, Anna probably would have just disappeared herself while the disappearing was good, but as it was, she found herself caught out, sitting in a chair and very much not wearing the uniform.

Well, she was wearing some of the uniform, over her white dress. The little tie thing, and the blazer. She was certain she'd put on the shoes this morning, but she seemed to have lost them somewhere along the way. Probably when she'd walked through some wall or other. "Oh!" she said, startled, when the tour group entered the room, drawing attention to herself. "I mean, hello."

There was absolutely no way that Britta Pretty would be able to take this oppression lying down. There were a great deal of things she had planned for boldly refusing to conform to the idea that she should be held down by the man no matter what. What were they going to do? Kick her out? She dropped out of high school once already, what did she care? If she wound up going to jail, she could think of no better reason for doing so than fighting for her individual rights and the rights of all her other fellow classmates. No. Not class mates. Human beings.

And the occasional non-human entity, too, now that she was here.

Which was why there was, briefly, a blonde girl decidedly NOT in her UNIFORM OF UNIFORMITY stepped into the common room as the guests were getting a tour, shouting out "FASCISTS!" as she threw something down on the ground and then fled. The something hit the ground, made a truly pathetic deflating noise, and just sat there, appearing for all the world to be an utterly failed attempt to make a smoke bomb out of a soda can.

It was the thought that counted, right?

Lucrezia had braided her hair into an elaborate knot, sitting at the base of her head. It made her seem a bit more mature, and it did seem more modern than her usual fare of beaded caps and thick loose strands falling to her waist. She was not cutting her hair for these visitors; this was a compromise.

She had even put on one of these horribly un-modest uniforms, as they had promised it would only be one day. She had worn modern clothing at Lord Tyrion's behest, for one class; she could do so to ensure the school's survival. For one day, only.

She was seated in the common room, re-reading some of Boccaccio's poems, when the officiants came in. She stood and bowed her head, though not too low. She was the Pope's daughter, whether they knew that or not. "I am pleased to make your acquaintance."

Butters was thrilled for the chance to show what a good little student he was. Maybe the representatives would be so impressed, they could write a letter of recommendation to his parents to help him not get grounded! He dressed neatly in his uniform, shined his shoes, tried to brush out his hair all nice (though a strand in the back kept escaping, giving him an unfortunate yet endearing cowlick (http://www.spscriptorium.com/SPMedia/ButtersCowlick.jpg)), and hurried down the hall, hoping that the school would cooperate and not put him in a different common room.

Seeing that he made it into the right one again, he let out a little "Yippee!" before clearing his throat and standing all straight and proper with good posture and everything so he could really impress the guests. "Oh, boy," he said, "we sure are lucky to have all you people come and see how great our school is, I'll tell ya!"

Kenzi was not awake yet. Still in jammies. Eating cereal out of the box. Someone did not get the memo yet, and was considering what she was meant to do with that weird uniform hanging on her door.

"These would be our stables, where the horses are kept," Annie said. "...Pretty self-explanatory there."

Don't mind her looking around to make sure there weren't any odd animals to hide, or that this wasn't where Pinkie lived.

No guns, but there was a cranky, cranky Mord'Sith punching the the practice dummies.

...a lot.

...in her stupid hideous lovely new uniform. Mustn't forget that.

"And this is the salle which I totally did not miss," Annie continued. "It's a place for students to let off some steam in a healthy way. Through physical fitness. It's very important to us."

Hopefully no one was stabbing anything.

[identity profile] annieadderall.livejournal.com 2012-04-16 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"And this," Annie said, "is... the flight shed."

How to make this seem normal...

"This is one of the really cool things that puts our school so far above the rest. We have a flight simulator. Which is really perfect to give those students with military futures a good start in their careers!"

End of the tour and there were no stress headaches! Hooray!

"And I'm afraid this brings us to the end of the dorms tour. But you can feel free to see what our classes have to offer though I warn that it is finals week," Annie said. "And Caroline will be more than happy to show you the town this afternoon!"

Is there a list somewhere of the new dorm assignments for the week? My brain, I has none.
