The Roof, Late Friday Afternoon
It was a nice day to be up on the roof. Warm but still not too hot for Natalie's taste. There was nothing weird going on in town, either, from what she could see. It looked almost normal, from up here.
Still, she couldn't quite say she was happy. There had been a feeling she hadn't been able to shake for a couple of days now. Ennui or homesickness or something else. She knew it would pass, because these moods always did. She just wished it would have gone away faster. She didn't have time to be feeling like this.
So, she was up on the roof, looking out over the town and smoking a cigarette that she intended to be her only one for now. Like she was willing her mood to be over in the span of a single smoke.
It was probably not going to work, but it was worth a shot.
[ooc: Open, naturally.]

"Hi," he said, stepping out onto the roof and shutting the door behind him. "We're... allowed up here, right?"

There was no smokers' club. That suited her fine.

Canon was so vague about time.

Someone had grown up with a mother who was a native French speaker and loved showing it off. Shut up.

//Fluently,// she replied. In French. Not really caring at that particular moment whether he knew the language or was just under the impression that a person from Montreal automatically knew French. //I'm Anglo, but a functional bilingual.//
And had an accent that betrayed her origin, yes. It was most likely not like his mother's.

He wasn't really expecting that anyone else would, and he nodded a little greeting. "Will I be disturbing you up here?"

"Oh, good," she said, spotting Natalie. "I'm not the only one who goes up here for one of these. Got a light?"
no subject
"Here."
Well, she could be nice without being too talkative.

Britta took the lighter, bending over slightly as she took it the cigarette, and then drew in the first inhale before handing it back. She'd been way too long without one since her last pack went empty and she had no money, so she relished in the moment.
"You come up here a lot?" she asked, since she felt it was only polite to be social to the chick lending you her lighter.
no subject
"Not really," she said, anyway, even if her tone was a little absent. It was like that often. "Not during the day, anyway."

And there, a moment or two passed where silent smoking might have seemed possible, but, of course, Britta had to mess that up.
"Do I know you?" she asked, tilting her head thoughtfully because she actually couldn't figure out if she just knew the other girl from being around or a class or something.
no subject
Well, she knew they hadn't had classes together. She was pretty sure she'd seen he other girl around, though.
