Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday night

Terry had been here a couple weeks now. He had mostly kept to himself due to DEADLINE HELL thanks to still having various suppressed emotions about the way his social life was broken up by leaving the future. Between that and getting the Batcave better set up, he hadn't given himself much time to just hang out in a common room and maybe meet people.

Of course, that also meant he hadn't seen much TV from the present. And tonight he had options. He could either watch average-to-good singers perform in front of judges who seemed to be caricatures of themselves. Or he could watch a generic talent show in front of even worse judges. Or he could watch a documentary about Walt Disney and resist the corporate urge to mock it.

Or he could just flip through the channels randomly and refuse to stop on anything for more than 10 seconds max. Yeah, that seemed to be winning for the time being.

There were certain things Sia was still getting used to here. Relatives across timelines, turning into hooved animals, and having to go to a common room to get something to eat were some of those things.

She paused on the way to the kitchen, watching him for a moment. "You might see more if you actually stop on a channel," she advised.

"That's a double edged sword," Terry noted. "The options are pretty lousy, so this way I don't expose myself to too much badness."

"Then why not just turn it off?" she wondered.

"I've had enough quiet time recently," Terry said. "This solves that probem. Of course, having people to talk to is even better."

"Then it's lucky I stopped in. You might have ended the night with remote-induced calluses," she said.

"Thanks for saving me from mild discomfort in my thumb," Terry said, putting the remote down after turning the volume down a bit. He had no idea what she he landed on. "Now I don't have to worry about writing funny if I need to take notes in class tomorrow."

That didn't seem likely with Holmes' class, but still.

"I don't believe I've needed to take a single note since I've been here," she pointed out. Not that she minded.

"I haven't yet. But you never know with Holmes. He's... a little weird," Terry said. "If there's one teacher who might make people write a lot just because he felt like it out of nowhere, it's probably him."

"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" Sia wondered. 'Weird' could mean 'eccentric' or it could mean 'CAN I DROP THIS CLASS YET??'

"Mostly an entertaining thing so far," Terry said. "He teaches the workshop on disguises. Last week his idea of a disguise was washing up and shaving. Crazy thing is it actually would have worked if we were just out in public."

"That's interesting. And slightly worrying. How dirty was he?"

There were important questions to be asked here.

"I've seen dirtier people," Terry said. "But he's definitely the worst-groomed teacher I've ever had. It's not even a competition, really."

"Let's all be grateful for that," Sia said. "I've yet to need to critique any of my teacher's appearances. Unless meeting the pony counts."

Nothing against Pinkie, just... she was a pony.

"Probably not after last weekend. Too many people have walked a mile in her horseshoes for anyone to judge," Terry joked.

"I just wonder how she manages to get everything done without hands." Someone (Sia) hadn't liked trying to figure that out. Or feeling like she was walking very loudly. Or essentially being naked the whole time. Or not being able to sleep comfortably in her bed. Or...

"I'm just going to claim 'lots of practice' and try not to think about it too much," Terry said.

"I'm roughly four days late to be able to not think about it," she told him. There was a lot of wondering how Pinkie managed anything when opening a door was difficult.

Terry had been lucky that one of the history's greatest escape artists was his mentor. Part of his training had actually included getting out of a locked room without using his hands. At least as a pony he had better jaws for turning door knobs.

"You just have to get better at repressing," Terry said. "Something tells me that skill would come in handy here."

"I don't see the need for repression," she stated.

Aaaaaaand if anyone wasn't sure she wasn't really a Skywalker, that statement should do it.

"That's one point of view. Personally, I'm all for repressing a taste for sugar cubes and what it's like to have a tail," Terry said.

"You say that now, but wait until you try something overly sugary and the memories come rushing back," she advised with a small smile.

"I'm just going to have to swear off all sweets to make this work, aren't I?" Terry asked.

"Possibly forever," she nodded.

"Then I'll just have to do that," Terry said with great confidence. "Until I relapse and really want some cake. Whichever comes first."
