Main Campfire, Sunday Morning
Unlike some other people, Karolina hadn't really had a problem with neither the tent living or the weather. She figured the first was because she'd gotten used to being in close quarters with people at the Hostel. And maybe the second part had to do with... well, her Majesdanian physiology, or something. The sun did power her up, after all.
Plus it had been a great excuse to spend a lot of the last week on the beach.
In any case, she wasn't in a hurry to get back to the dorms yet. She sat by the campfire – unlit, of course – eating a homemade granola bar for breakfast. A fuller meal would have to wait until she got back to the dorms and got cooking.

It took Karolina a second to figure out what he meant. But that second was well spent on making sure there weren't granola crumbs on the corner of her mouth.
"Oh," she said, as she got it. "Um, no, thanks. I didn't really need a fire for anything."

But a different kind of weird from the few months that had preceded her coming here! Which had been weird, too.

Which had not been harmful, but still weird.

"I don't know what there's really to do about us being wards of the state of California," Karolina shrugged with a wry sort of a smile. "But thanks for the offer."

DIFFERENT WORLD, TONY.

"But you're not from where I am," she pointed out. "So, uh. I'm not sure that would work."

"Well, if there's anything I can do, just let me know."

He gestured back and forth between them.
"Totally normal comparatively."
