Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Afternoon

Natalie was spending her Saturday the way she sent most Saturdays: studying. Hey, she hadn't been in any of her workshops this week due to her impromptu trip to Montreal. She had to catch up. Never mind that she'd been keeping up with her independent coursework even while at home, and catching up with taught workshops seemed to be limited to absently thinking that if she was going to miss a lecture on one of the seven deadly sins, lust was probably the right one to skip.

But whatever. She could still use this time on working on her Latin wordforms and reading ahead in Economics. And she could do it while sitting cross-legged on a couch in the common room, too. That was quite enough pretending to be social for her, especially since the previous week was still making her wary of specifically seeking people out.

There were some bags of tea and an empty cup on the counter in the kitchen area, but they seemed abandoned now. Natalie was drinking Pepsi.

"I wasn't. Well I was surprised that I got cursed because obviously I was having an off day to let that happen." Nah, Jace, you were that dumb all of the time. "I meant about you. Joining Umbridge was the logical move and you are nothing if not logical. Most of the time."

Nothing about dating someone seriously was logical in Jace's mind.

Well, love was going to be Natalie's weak spot for a long time to come, and she was fine with that. "Guess so," she said. "And I guess I should be glad I'm not feeling any particular angst over that."

Because feeling vaguely guilty about not feeling guilty was so much better, really.

"I don't see why you would," he said. "Angst should be saved for special occasions where it's really warranted."

He should probably take his own advice sometime.

"And having supported a dictatorship that condones brainwashing isn't a special occasion?" she drawled. "Not to mention beating people up basically for fun and/or bonding. Good to know."

"If that had been real? Yes, fine, angst away," he said with a wave of his hand. "But since it wasn't there's no point."

"It wasn't that much less real than this," Natalie replied mildly. "But I'm not angsting so the point is moot. I still prefer this universe."

"Well obviously," he said. "A universe where sex is frowned upon? No thank you."

Natalie had to give that an amused snort, no matter how quiet. "Maybe that opinion's the real reason you were cursed."
