Jace didn't tend to spend too much time in common rooms. He wasn't the most sociable person in the first place and he didn't quite understand the fascination with television. But on occasion there were times where he was bored enough to put up with both for the sake of entertainment. Today would be one of those days. Which would explain why he was hanging around the common room on his floor.

He didn't know whose leftover Chinese it was in the fridge but it was his now and if someone wanted to watch something that wasn't sports coverage well...too bad.

Toby had ducked out of work a little early, when the talk of cats and improving muscle mass had finally gotten a bit too much.

"Hey, man," he greeted, flopping down on the couch.

"Toby," Jace said, giving Toby a nod as a greeting. "How's it going?"

"Did you know how many squirrels can ride on a cat?" Toby replied. "Because apparently it's 48,071."

Yeah.

"That many squirrels on one cat?" Jace asked. "Seems a little unbelievable to me."

"You'd think so, but that was just one of the many fascinating facts the droids at work felt they needed to impart to me," Toby rolled his eyes.

"Those things are like robots, right?" Jace asked. "I wouldn't trust robots. Never ends well."

"Pretty much," Toby said. "Apparently there was an incident last week where one of them was insisting on killing all humans? Of course, it also was convinced humans were a kind of peanut, so," he shrugged. "It worked out okay." Still, he'd been glad to hear Zayne had reprogrammed that one.

"Don't you work at a restaurant, what do you need droids there for?" he asked. "Security or something?"

"Nah, they're like, serving and cooking droids," Toby explained. "I dunno. I guess wherever Zayne comes from, they use them for all sorts of different things." So... pretty much the GFFA version of 'there's an app for that'.

"Weird." He was from a fairly off the grid society so he found a lot of electronic stuff strange. "At least now if I find a screw in my food I know where it came from."

"You don't think I'd make sure that wouldn't happen?" Toby asked, eyebrow raised.

"I don't know, I make some roommate faux pas you might feel the need to punish me for," he said. "I'm told I can be quite annoying."

"Please," Toby snorted. "I grew up in foster families and group homes. You'd have to be pretty bad to beat most of the roommates I've had."

"Since when do you watch TV?" Alec asked, joining him on the couch.

And since when did Alec stalk the fifth floor for signs of life? Well, okay, that wasn't that new.

"I felt sociable and there's no other form of entertainment in here," Jace said. "Unless you count cooking which, no. Not happening."

"I'm sure you'd be better than Isabelle," Alec pointed out. Of course, that was saying basically nothing. "You must at least know how to boil water."

"I believe I could pull that off, yes," Jace agreed. "Still, I don't want to be cooking for the entire floor. That's always how it turns out."

"That's fair." Plus Chinese food was awesome, even if Alec was ninety percent sure Jace had just stolen that out of the fridge. Parabatai intuition, yo. "How's your week been?"

"Utterly dull." Which would explain why he was hanging out in here and watching TV. "Was yours any better?"

"I spoke to someone from another planet and picked up my bow from Barton," Alec recited. "Nothing all that interesting."

"Speaking to someone from another planet wasn't all that interesting?" Jace asked. "That's sort of disappointing."

"Well, she was sort of interesting on her own," Alec disclaimed, because he wasn't about to go around calling people boring. Except for how he totally did by accident. "But I'm getting the idea that since we weren't interrupted halfway through by a... mariachi squirrel band, it qualifies as fairly mundane."

"Did you tip them after they were done playing?" Seemed like a logical question to him.

"Oh. No. It was just an example."

"Still more exciting than what I've done this week," he said. "For such a strange place it can be painfully boring sometimes."

"Needs more Downworlders to bother, I think."
