The Roof, Thursday Evening
Alec was counting himself lucky that unlike other people, he wasn't actually dreading the arrival of his family member tomorrow. He missed his sister and it was going to be nice to see her, even if it was just for a weekend. He was... less sure about how Izzy was going to react to certain people on the island, like a certain person whose name rhymed with 'cattily,' but whether that wound up being a good thing or a bad thing remained to be seen.
For right now, he was taking a few hours to appreciate the quiet before all the guests showed up tomorrow, because he had a feeling he wouldn't be able to do much sitting-on-the-roof-doing-nothing once Isabelle was here and inevitably wanted tours. (He might have been exaggerating her interest in the workings of the island there. In fact, he probably was.) In the meantime, there was an Alec, a rooftop, and a weird coffee drink that tasted like pumpkin and was actually kind of amazing. Nothing too strange going on up here.
Okay, that was kind of weird. But anyway.

But Alec was decent company, so Victor only started for a moment before settling on the rooftop with a book in his hands.
"It's weird to see you here," he said, then corrected himself. "Not weird in a bad way. Just ... didn't expect anybody."
no subject
Maybe the roof was like a library computer, where you could only use it for brooding until there was someone else waiting.

He hesitated. "Or ... I could go?"

Suuuuch a dumbass.
"Well, we could set up a tent."
no subject
He did not.
"...that was also a joke, by the way."
no subject
no subject
Because that was exactly what Shadowhunters did, right?
no subject
"Maybe if it was a lot of gremlins," Alec amended. "Really, really small ones."
Okay then, Alec.
"Or bugs would probably be a better example."
no subject
"Bedbugs are kind of getting to be everywhere, right?" Victor asked hypothetically. "And now I'm going to actually be thinking about this."

He was hoping it would not involve bugs, tents or gremlins in any way.
no subject
Eeeeeeven less exciting.
"What about you?"
no subject
"I ... didn't totally screw up at lacrosse practice today?" he offered. "I don't know. I don't have anybody coming, so I'll just -- hang out this weekend and see what people are like." And mope. "This is the sister who dates werewolves?"
no subject
He was so eloquent, this one.
"So... is not having anyone show up a good thing?" He figured it varied from person to person.
no subject
"It's a mixed thing," he said, after a pause. "I mean, it's definitely easier not to have to explain stuff. But I miss people. Maybe I'll go home some weekend to make up for it."
He suspected he knew the answer, but, "Is your sister coming a good thing?"
no subject
maybe, so Victor might be in luck!"It is, yeah," Alec said. "This place makes me a little homesick sometimes, so it'll be good to see her." Assuming she didn't find every werewolf, vampire and other Downworlder on the island and climb them like a tree.
Oh, right. He was kind of rubbing it in. "Visiting home might be even better than having visitors, though," he offered. "Just... being in your house. And everything. It'll be worth it."
no subject
"Probably, yeah," Victor nodded. "You could go home if you wanted, right? New York's not that far."
no subject
Unless they were Derek.
"Yeah, I could. I probably will, sometime when I know more people than just Izzy are going to be home." He gave a little shrug at that. "Not that distance really factors in that much, with the whole portal thing. I'm still getting used to that."
no subject
no subject
"It's definitely useful," Alec agreed. "At home, we have... some, but they're not common the way Portalocity is here. And they probably work differently; I've never heard of anyone getting stuck in completely the wrong place thanks to a poorly-set-up Portalocity portal."
He'd heard wrong, clearly.
no subject
"Sometimes they route you weird," he offered. "Like, last time I went home the cheapest route would have left me in Zimbabwe in 1804 for a couple hours."
He had not taken this suggestion. Vic was broke, not crazy.
"But yeah, I never heard of anybody just getting stuck."
