The Roof [Thursday evening]

So. She was really, obviously,stupid to think that things would be different here, right? Like...she could just have friends here, and be happy, and oh, god, last week she'd had a party and people had come and no one had made fun of her or paid her at all, and she had a homecoming date, and --

Well. Probably not, anymore. Olive was back to feeling just as ostracized as she had back in Ojai. And it wasn't even that she was embarrassed about what she'd done -- that was a little bit of it, sure. But the reason she was up here on the roof, crying, her knees tucked up to her chest -- and crap, now the cliches were following her, too -- was that she'd gotten used to things just being...normal here. And now the whole thing had followed her after all, and there was a common room of people she actually cared about laughing at her all trussed up in lingerie, who all knew about all of the lying.

So, yeah. Cliche or not, she would just sit here and feel sorry for herself, and then run back down to her room and pack her things before Karolina could notice she was gone. Or something. That didn't seem like the most intelligent course of action, but she couldn't think clearly at the moment.

Toby nodded. "And things spiraled out of control."

"Exactly," Olive sighed. "So. That's my big backstory. I really wish I'd been able to tell people myself."

"But hey, bright side? Now you've got proof of how much cooler we are than the lame-ass crowd back home." Because was anyone here ready to turn Olive into some sort of social pariah? Toby could be reasonably certain that was not the case.

"I don't have proof of that yet." Other than the multitude of people reassuring her. "I mean, Topher did show everyone this."

"Topher's... Topher," Toby shrugged. "Which isn't an excuse so much as an explanation? I'm not sure he really gets people." As opposed to Toby, who used telepathy as a crutch to avoid getting to know most people. "But I think what most of us are worried about is the fact that you're upset."

"I'll be okay," Olive said, waving a hand. "I mean, I'm still sort of vaguely thinking about running away or something but I don't think it'll be necessary."

"I can't in all honesty say running away never solved anything," because, well. Case in point: himself. "But yeah. Gonna have to go with totally not necessary here."

"Tempting, though," Olive admitted. "I could sell my corsets for traveling cash."

"Kenzi'd buy 'em, I bet." A beat. "Again, not that I'm advocating running."

"She does seem interested in them," Olive noted. "I might want to keep them, though. Never know when you might need to skank it up at a moment's notice."
