Fifth Floor Common Room [Tuesday afternoon onwards]

Eighteen wasn't so different from seventeen thus far, except for the fact that it was kind of a big day to be turning eighteen. Olive had gone out and done her civic duty earlier that day, and somehow the rite of casting her very first vote hadn't been all that exciting. Maybe she was too cynical, or maybe she was too ADHD in general. Either way, she'd spent most of her time in line, texting, before finally, painstakingly filling out her ballot.

She was now in the common room, as she'd emailed she would be, with a festive birthday hat cocked to one side on her head. She'd put on NBC -- though at eleven she'd change it to Comedy Central, because Jon Stewart was both more palatable and kind of hot -- and was vaguely watching the screen in between texting with Rhiannon (who was waiting in her own voting line -- god help them all.)

There was a stack of pizzas as well as some moddable snacks and drinks, and Olive was fine with going ahead and terming this a 'party.' As long as no one brought a case of beer again, Sparkle. And...Cade. And Atton. (It was hard to be narratively accusing when there were so many guilty parties last time.)

[party is open to alllllll.]

Karolina had somehow managed to get over some of the post-weekend mortification, at least enough to come here. It was Olive's birthday, and there were election results to wait for. She couldn't not show up.

And she'd brought some also moddable vegetarian snacks, too.

Despite what he'd told Olive last night (when he'd been, you know, lying), he didn't have plans for this evening so he wandered into the party after it'd already started.

He'd even remembered a gift and it wasn't a crate of alcohol. He'd just leave that to someone else. That crap got expensive after awhile.
solarhippie: ([neg] Oh gosh!)

Well, Karolina should have expected that. But she hadn't. So, this was her getting startled and... trying to hide behind a cushion.

Oh yeah, she was the most mature person here, clearly.

Well, hey. Olive was pretty high on his list of favourite people, so Toby had no problems showing up for her party on massive SP. The election stuff he could've done without, being from another country and several years in the past, but eh. Birthday girl's perogative.

Sia wasn't exactly looking to socialize after being insane this weekend, but it was Olive, so she showed up. And- okay whose idea was it to leave election stuff on in front of the girl who was actually interested in your electoral process?

Sparkle so hadn't brought a case of beer this time! Beer was for special occasions, if you were going to be sharing that damn much.

... But he did bring two jugs of apple cider, and a bottle of cinnamon whiskey. Because sometimes he felt like he had to earn being called 'Fireball' by his partners in crime.

He was kind of avoiding the TV though, because, ugh, politics. American ones, so they didn't even have anything to do with him.

Victor got to the party a little on the late side, after working and stopping to shop for a present on the way back to the dorms. He claimed some pizza, then casually glanced around the room.

He hoped nobody remembered the weekend and would ask him to sing.

Petra was sitting with her elbows on her knees, leaning forward, eyes glued to the television. Occasionally she would break for anxiety snacks.

She couldn't really focus on the party part for once, because. Election.

Jim dropped off his present. He hadn't even made an attempt to wrap them but he was proud of them just the same.

The shirt he'd gotten her was hilarious and awesome and amazing.

Jim was sure she'd agree when she saw it.

"Happy Birthday, you," Toby said as he wandered over. "Or as we say in Canada... Happy Birthday. Unless you're French, in which case it's different." And one of the few phrases not from the back of a cereal box he actually knew!

Karolina could probably have given her gift to Olive earlier, but she hadn't. So, she was getting to that now.

"Happy birthday!"

"Happy birthday and congratulations on legality," Sia greeted her because I'm at work and can't fake shop yet.

"Ooooooliiiiive." Sparkle hadn't brought anything really fancy, because... well, Sparkle was cheap. But he did get a card, with, like, a dog on it or something. He hadn't really been paying attention. A card was a card, right?

What really mattered was that inside the envelope along with that card, there was a piece of paper torn out of a notebook, written in Sparkle's surprisingly legible hand, proclaiming itself to be a voucher for free hair and make-up services for every major event for the next full year.

"It's like your birthday or something, huh? I promise to get partygoers only kinda drunk tonight. But like no promises, since I hear drinking's going to be a big thing so long as you have election coverage on television."

Victor hoped his gift read as sweet in a smartass way, and not just as creepy. He looked almost shy as he offered Olive the box.

"Happy birthday," he said. "Is the party soothing the pain of your ephilides?"

Petra figured the polite thing to do was bring a gift, since this wasn't just a common room election-night gathering, so she'd brought something she hoped the birthday girl would appreciate.
