Third floor common room [morning]

Cade hadn't noticed anything was different yet today, which was why he'd gone through his normal Saturday morning routine: thinking about jogging (deciding not to), shower, then into the common room for a box of Cocoa Puffs in front of whatever was on the television at the time.

It was a thrilling life Cade led here. He was (weirdly, for him) more interested in hearing about your day today.

And then leveraging that information to his own benefit, naturally. How Peter Wiggin of him...

"Just as long as I never get so used to it that 'guy sticking his hand in fire' never gets kind of boring," Jessica agreed. "Which, you know, I don't think has a chance of ever happening. Ever."

"I'm not tired of it yet," Sparkle laughed, waving his breakfast around as if it somehow strengthened his point. "And hey, if you drop anything into a fire and you need someone to fish it out for you, I'm totally your guy."

There was... probably not actually a practical application for this power. But Sparkle was still going to enjoy it while it lasted.

"That happens to me like, two, three times a week, so I'll keep that in mind," Jessica joked. "Especially right now since I'm going to try cooking something up. If anything weird happens with the burner, you're my guy."

"Completely your guy," and yeah, Sparkle was going to relish that potentially-useful feeling for a bit. "What you cooking? Should I be getting off of the counter or something for this?"

"Just pancakes. I may ask you to scootch over a tiny bit, but please, don't let me interrupt your counter-sitting," Jessica said. "It looks much more comfortable than sitting in a chair."

"Besides," Sparkle added, scootching just enough to leave some counter space open by the stove, "the chairs are all the way over there, and being fireproof doesn't make it easier to get from one place to another."

This affliction was also commonly known as 'being lazy.'

"Trust me, I'll well aware of how tough it can be to walk a few feet," Jessica said. "I don't envy you having to deal with that."

"The trials and tribulations of being normal," Sparkle replied. "It's a difficult life, but somebody's gotta do it."

"And yet somehow, you survive," Jessica noted. "You're an inspiration to the rest of us."

"Remember me when I'm gone," Sparkle chuckled, "as that guy who never did anything worth really getting excited about, except that one time he played chicken with the stove burner and won."

"Which is extra impressive since countless chickens play that game every day and lose," Jessica noted.

"But their superpower is being delicious."

Which was also an impressive superpower, if you weren't the chicken.

"Actually, that's a coincidence. Their superpower is actually crossing roads. I heard it from some guy once," Jessica said. "I think he was waiting for me to laugh, but I didn't."

That didn't stop her from sharing the joke now, of course.

And it wasn't going to stop Sparkle from laughing, still a bit giddy over the whole 'fireproof' thing.

"See, if that's a superpower, then I've been way more impressive my whole life than I ever thought. What other superpowers have I had all this time without ever realizing?"

"Probably the ability to make your hair do the thing," Jessica said, trying to mimic it with her fingers above her head when, you know, Sparkle's hair was right there on his head.

"Huh. You know, you'd think I would have figured that one out? I mean, enough people comment on it like it's not normal or something."

His hairdo was perfectly usual, wasn't it? It wasn't just the heaps of product he used or anything?

"Superpowers are always showing up where you least expect," Jessica said with a shrug as she opened the cabinets to get everything she would need for the pancakes.
