Cade hadn't noticed anything was different yet today, which was why he'd gone through his normal Saturday morning routine: thinking about jogging (deciding not to), shower, then into the common room for a box of Cocoa Puffs in front of whatever was on the television at the time.

It was a thrilling life Cade led here. He was (weirdly, for him) more interested in hearing about your day today.

"I don't think so? I feel a little off, but I'm not sure what's wrong, which is kind of worse than knowing, I think," Billy said. "Promise me you'll be careful with the flying thing? It might take practice."

"Don't worry, I intend to practice," Topher promised him. "Hey, if you did your disk thing, we could both fly! Unless -- you don't think the feeling-weird has to do with your powers?"

"I don't think so," Billy said, flicking his fingers together to bring up a little lightning... and then staring at his hand when nothing happened. "Oh, that is so not cool."

Oh. Well, shit.

Topher dropped down from a few feet above the ground and walked over to Billy, instinctively putting a hand on his shoulder.

"Try something else? With the 'I wish' part?"

Billy took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "IwishIwasmoreawake IwishIwasmoreawake..." he chanted, looking a little relieved when it worked. "Okay, that's one good sign, I guess."

"See, there you go, you still have powers and now you're more awake," Topher reasoned, which was... a lot less logical than he was normally prone to being. "Maybe your -- is it your lightning? -- is just being weird right now like my... smart-ness, and you just have to figure out what you got instead."

"Maybe," Billy said, still staring at his hands a little uncertainly. "Whatever's going on, it'll straighten itself out soon enough, right? Maybe we should focus on the good stuff, like you getting to do something cool for a while, right?"

Topher grinned. "Yeah," he decided. "Tony was saying I could hover over the ball pit and drop in from a few feet up. Or I could... do something actually cool and superheroey."

"You could totally do something superheroey, if anything happens to the island this weekend," Billy said SOMEHOW NOT IN CAPSLOCK. "That'd be awesome, and I'd be right by your side."

"So which of us would be the sidekick?" Topher wondered. "Magic trumps flying, right?"

"Neither one of us has to be the sidekick. We can be partners, like Captain America and Iron Man." It was a perfectly fitting comparison as far as Billy was concerned.
