Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

Jeremy was just intending to have a nice night in. He'd ordered pizza (more than one – there was plenty to share), he was wearing comfy (yet still ridiculously expensive) clothes, and he was all ready to spend his evening in the common room, watching something nice and maybe even holiday themed on the TV, and chatting with his fellow students should they be drawn in by the totally amazing smell of pizza.

But then he flopped down on the couch and turned the TV on. And found that there was nothing but cycling on. On any channel. Granted, this time around it was at least a bit different on each channel: old races, new races, people just leisurely biking to places, and the odd bit of bicycle maintenance advice. But that didn't really help Jeremy who was frowning at the TV and clicking through channels like maybe one of them actually offered something he'd want to watch.

But no.

"Aw, come on! Really? Again?"

Did the TV really hate him or something?

Victor retrieved the screwdriver he wanted, set to work tightening connection he was worried about.

"What, so we could prove we can break a really good TV?" he asked. "... but the gauntlet thing might be sort of cool."

"If the gauntlet couldn't break a TV screen, I'd have more than just a few problems headed my way."

"Well, that's clearly a design flaw, if your TVs aren't as strong as supervillains," Topher decided.

"The trick is making sure the supervillains aren't mad at the TVs," said Victor, who thought he was funny. "Okay, any theories on what exactly we should look for?"

"Something broken. Less talking, more fixing," Jessica said, because she was also there.

"Shhhh, science is happening," Tony replied, shoving his arms into the TV. Oh god, it was so deep. Like putting your arms into a dead tauntaun.

"There's an arc reactor upgrade I hadn't considered," Topher commented. Because the TV was basically your shirt now, Tony.

"...Someone pass a screwdriver?"

And lo, Victor offered a screwdriver, then leaned far enough back to talk to Jessica.

"Yeah, but everything looks kind of broken. Also the whole thing smells like crispy dust bunnies."

"Yeah, but if we replace all of the broken stuff with an arc reactor, a supervillain's going to end up trying to take over the world with our TV," Jessica pointed out. "And because this is Fandom, the villain will probably be made out of those dust bunnies."

"Speaking of which, that dust bunny looks shifty. I suggest fixing the piece it seems to be staring at."

"...I'm not sure I could beat a dust bunny monster," Topher commented in an impressive moment of self-awareness as he got to work unscrewing some more vaguely technological-sounding stuff. "Victor, wanna bodyguard me? Hypothetically."

Ahahahaha. Ha.

"Hypothetically," Victor said, as he twiddled something on the dismantled control panel and frowned hard, "I'm gonna burn up the dust bunny and give you time to run. That close enough?"

"Dustbunny-Man would just spread the fire everywhere. It would be a pyrrhic victory," Jessica said. "I think you're twiddling the wrong thingamabob. Try the other one."

Jessica was a back-seat sciencer.

"Also this one," Topher said, surfacing from beneath the TV to hold up a newly-disconnected wire that appeared to have been chewed on. "Important update: gremlin spit is not, in fact, green."

"And we didn't even need to catch a gremlin and make it spit to find out," Victor observed. "Lucky us."

He was now twiddling the doohickey in the opposite direction, just in case that would work.

"But in the meantime, I think this looks pretty good so far. Go us."

"Let's do it."

Topher wasn't going to press the power button, though. Someone who could beat up a dust bunny monster could do that.

Victor gave the control panel one last sentimental pat before tucking it back in place.

"Looks good to me."

"Since I was mostly just bossing people around anyway, I'll push the button," Jessica said. "And if it works, I will get all the credit as the button-pusher."

And with that, she turned the TV on and waited to see what would happen.
