Fifth Floor Common Room, Thursday evening

Jessica didn't even notice it when she settled into the common room to check out the new TV. She was too busy checking out the post-it note that apologized for the mess the previous TV had made of things and then sitting back to watch some television that she WOULDN'T mind viewing.

But as she was flipping channels, she heard a "Psst" from the ceiling. She looked up and saw the mistletoe. "Did you just talk, Random Plant?" The mistletoe made kissing noises. "I'm not putting up with this," Jessica said, turning the TV volume up and moving to a different couch.

"Psst," the mistletoe said again. She looked up. It had moved above her again. "Okay, I'm out of here." But before she could stand up, she saw more mistletoe in the doorway.

She was trapped.

But at least the TV was working right?

"I haven't heard anything back from home yet, so I assume I'm staying here," she said. "With its talking plants and all."

"Orrrrrrrrrr," Olive said, "you could come home with me! My mom invited you. Actually, she invited any of my 'wayward friends,' but she specifically did mention 'that girl with the artistic hair.'"

Air quotes all over that, yes.

"Artistic," she repeated. "That's a first." She shrugged slightly after considering it. "I suppose it could be fun. Thank you."

"No problem. And see this way, you get the whole Christmassy thing. We might even get to go see Santa!" Olive said, eyes lighting up as she considered it.
notconflicted: (uh oh)

"Do I even want to know?"

She probably didn't, no.

"Oh man, you don't know about Santa. I have to fix this," Olive noted. "I have a little brother who maybe still believes? Probably not. He's alarmingly smart. But it's possible, so we'll have to be able to fake it. Anyway, Santa's this big fat old guy in a red suit who comes and climbs down your chimney and leaves you presents on Christmas."

Because that explanation wasn't terrifying.

"...Why?"

Start with the simple questions.

[identity profile] dirtiest-skank.livejournal.com 2012-12-14 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"It's for kids' benefit, because it's magic," Olive replied.

Not an answer.

"It is not." Sia? Not so much a believer.

[identity profile] dirtiest-skank.livejournal.com 2012-12-14 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"No, it is," Olive told her. "Santa goes to everyone's house over the course of one night, and he uses flying reindeer to get around."

Still not great.
notconflicted: (seriously?)

Sia just arched an eyebrow at her, because really, Olive. Really.

[identity profile] dirtiest-skank.livejournal.com 2012-12-14 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Not making this up," Olive said, holding her hands up. "Seriously, we can go to a mall or something and meet Santa, if you want, and you can tell him about your doubts."

Olive was diabolical.

"Right. That should happen."

Sia was sarcastic.

"I'm so glad you agree!" Olive knew she was sarcastic. She was choosing to ignore that. "There's also lots of documentaries about the Santa thing, too."

Like Rudolph.
