2nd Floor Common Room, Thursday Afternoon

So, guess you couldn't leave Peter alone for too long. Or maybe he was feeling particularly frustrated with his foxness today. Natalie didn't know. What she did know was that she'd come back from her visit to Clint's office and found her desk in disarray, and Mr. Moxy hissing at Peter like he'd really crossed some kind of line by messing up Natalie's workspace.

She'd left the cat in the room and ushered the fox out into the hallway with her. She'd been meaning to go for a snack, anyway. "It was because I took the laptop with me, wasn't it?" she asked, as they were entering the common room. "Already told you you can't use it, anyway."

Peter the fox seemed to give her an indignant look.

"What?" she asked. "You'd just scratch it. We've been over this. You don't even have your own independent narrative." Too bad foxes couldn't roll their eyes all that well, though she got the message. "And don't give me that look, I know you don't. So, there's nothing you can or should be doing on a computer right now."

Was that a whine?

"You're a fox. Deal with it."

She was going to get them some cereal right now. And yes, newbies, arguing with animals was a thing that occasionally happened in this town. In case you hadn't figured that out yet.

"Hey, Natalie," Topher said, waving idly at her on his way to the fridge. "Hey, Peter."

He'd met fox!Peter before. It was a thing.

Natalie raised an eyebrow at him a bit, but she wasn't that surprised he could identify foxes that easily. "Hello, Topher."

Peter, understandably, said nothing.

Well, it was partly a knowledge of foxes and partly a logical guess that there probably weren't that many other foxes hanging around in the dorms. Plus, Natalie seemed more the cat-lady type than someone who would choose to keep a fox as a pet.

...Sorry, Natalie.

"Babysitting?" he guessed, hopping up onto the counter with a Mountain Dew. "He eats wires, you know."

What was the point in going "sorry, Natalie" when she had a cat as a pet, though? Foxes were for people from medieval-type worlds, anyway.

"He messes up desks," she replied dryly, with a glance down at Peter who looked like there was absolutely nothing wrong with that. "It's not as charming as he thinks."

Because cats were terrifying and for weird people, duh.

"He's probably just technology-deprived," Topher said sagely. "Maybe get him a book or something and flip the pages for him to tide him over."

"I honestly don't think I could find a book he'd be interested in," Natalie replied, reaching into a cupboard. "And I'm already keepinng an eye on his work. No one helped me read when I was a snake."

Cade did that raised eyebrow "I acknowledge you exist" thing to Natalie as he entered the common room, then added on raised eyebrow "what the kark is that?" to it when he spotted the fox.

Talking, apparently, wasn't his thing today.

"Because snakes are creepy," Topher said."You know the last time Peter was a fox, he got paintballed?"

And it had been hilarious, yes.

Really good thing Natalie could check the meanings of his eyebrow raises from his narrative, then, wasn't it?

"Hi," she said, a little on the dry side, then nodded at the fox. "Peter Wiggin."

Peter didn't look like he thought so.

"Well, that's not happening this time," Natalie drawled. "But I can't guarantee my cat won't scratch him."

Well, that raised an important question. "Think Peter would win in a fight against it?"

Ahahaha. Ha.

"No."

Good thing she was immune to fox scowling by now.

Cade snickered and got closer to the fox. "Seriously?"

"Yes, seriously," Natalie replied, not a lot less dryly. "I know it's hard to believe with the lack of suit and everything."

Peter looked at Cade... pretty warily, yes.

"A fox wearing a suit would just be karking ridiculous," Cade decided just as dryly. "Does he do this a lot?"

Because Cade hadn't heard about it, if so.

"Well, it's his second time," she shrugged. "Does that seem like a lot?"

"Yeah," Cade said. "I've turned into a fox zero times."

Natalie shrugged. "Well, I've turned into a snake once," she remarked. "It happens. Fandom thing."

[Tomorrow is fine! *tucks you in*]

"Me neither." Topher grinned. "And not when he's a fox, either."

Topher thought he was hilarious.

Natalie just gave him a look that asked 'really? you had to say that?'

"Very amusing, Topher."

"Thank you, I thought so," he replied. "I'm here all week."

...

"Actually I might be going to the mainland on Sunday," he amended. "Scratch that."

Natalie just suppressed an eyeroll-and-sigh combo, crouching down to set a plate in front of Peter.

He had short fox legs, he could just deal with eating at floor level.

Topher peered over to watch this, because he was a weirdo. "So... what's your transformation plan?" he inquired. "For when he, you know."

He gestured to indicate 'transforms from a fox back to a human without clothes on.' It was a pretty vague gesture.

Natalie knew what he was referring to, though, because she was sensible like that, and had thought about it.

"I have one of his suits in my room," she shrugged, "and am hoping for the best."

Topher nodded. "So you're gonna throw it at him, shriek, and run away?"

That wasn't even remotely sarcastic or teasing. That was genuinely the best plan he could think of.
