Fifth Floor Common Room, Sunday afternoon

After spending basically all day yesterday hiding in her room because, as near as she could tell, she was the only girl who had turned into a boy, Jessica had finally calmed down. Mostly because of radio. She may have hated Topher a bit for mocking her legitimate trauma here, but she was giddy for confirmation that at least it wasn't her cloned genes going completely crazy somehow (...SCIENCE?) and that it was just stupid, evil, Fandom magic.

(Seriously, though. How was it that the only people she talked to yesterday were girls who stayed girls? How was that at all possible?)

Anyway, she was okay being out in public today. She was okay grabbing food from the common room and then staying there. She had cereal. She had a seat on the couch. She had television which was showing... Mrs Uncertaintyflame? Well, that was just mean, television. How dare you? ...Jessica still left it on, though.

"Huh." Well. "Makes sense." Only Jessica had that sense of humor, after all. Well. And her dead 'cousin.' "My condolences for the transformation."

"I freaked out a lot yesterday. Today I'm okay with the state of things," Jessica said. "Although I am kind of mystified that all I'm running into are people who haven't changed." Until the next thread, at least.

"I think my roommate changed," Gert offered assuming Maddie had been in the room, which seemed like a safe assumption. "If you see a guy ginger with short hair, might be her. You guys can bond in solidarity or something."

"I appreciate the head's up," Jessica said. "But I think that most people who changed are just hiding. Or at least keeping very local. The only reason I'm really out here is to give my roommate some space."

"She's not taking it well?" Gert guessed. Atton so wasn't a girl, Gert.

"He spent a week as an animal of some kind," Jessica corrected.

Yep, that was indeed worse. "I didn't know that could happen," Gert sighed. "I'd rather turn into a TV."

"And deal with people watching you all the time?" Jessica asked. "I'll choose puppy over that every day. At least you can get some alone time."

"But if they're watching me, at least whatever I'm playing is interesting," Gert countered. "If you're an animal, you're not necessarily in control of what you're doing. Someone needs to open all your doors for you and give you food. No thanks."

"The people who stare at infomercials out of boredom would like to argue with your first statement there," Jessica pointed out. "And if you're an animal, the people getting you stuff are almost like butlers. It's convenient."

"Unless you don't get one and you're stuck whimpering in your dorm room and starving to death." Gert was in a cheery mood, couldn't you tell? "TV sounds like the safer bet to me."

"There are too many friendly, do-gooding people here for that to happen," Jessica countered. "Every pet I've ever seen here is treated well."

"So if you're a dog, you're going to use your opposable thumbs to get out of your room and find someone with a pet to take pity on you?" Just trying to suss out your plan, Jess.

"Atton would give me to one of my friends to help me out," Jessica said. "And I'm clever. Even as a dog, I'm confident I'd be able to get out of a locked room."

Well, now Gert was curious. "How?"

"It depends on what kind of dog I'd be specifically," Jessica said. "But it all boils down to having strong jaws and bedsheets to catch locks and door knobs."

Huh. "Not bad," Gert admitted. "Better hope you're a dog and not like a fish or something, then."
