Gert did not often try to cook, because she did not delude herself into thinking that she was good at it. Although her parents had been evil, they had also been pretty good cooks, so there had never been any need for her to attempt culinary experiments on her own. And then after she ran away, she and the others had mostly been limited to things like In-'N'-Out Burger due to a lack of a microwave.

Today, though -- today, on a whim, she tried making macaroni and cheese. Only, and she didn't want to get into the specifics, two tiny pieces of macaroni fell onto the burner instead of into the pot and caught fire, which required some fairly quick maneuvering on Gert's part before the situation could escalate.

So... that happened.

After that, Gert no longer had an interest in cooking today. She emptied the half-cooked macaroni into a bowl and put it in the fridge for someone else to work with, then flopped on the couch and started doing her nails. It seemed like a safer plan all-around.
