Second Floor Common Room, Sunday Evening

As usual, Sushi Station had gone way overboard, which meant that tonight the common room had quite the spread. Which Gert didn't mind, because she had been craving a cream cheese and avocado roll something fierce lately, and that apparently meant that Old Lace had been too. And Gert was nice enough to share.

Parentless Grey was on, Old Lace was curled up in front of the couch, and a whole tray of sushi was laid out for the taking as Gert continued the marathon she had started this morning.

What? It was a really good show.

All the telltale signs of free food were there, so naturally, Toby found himself wandering in to the common room and flopping down on a couch.

"Hey, Gert." And a nod to the dinosaur. "Old Lace." It certainly was testament to something that seeing a dinosaur chilling in the common room didn't seem particularly out of place. "You sharing?" he asked, because assuming was just rude.

"Yeah, help yourself," she said. "Is it just me or are the restaurants in this place just not interested in making a profit?"

Hey, she didn't mind. At the beginning of tenth grade, she had tried her very best to convince her parents to let her join the school's socialist club. And cheap food was cheap food. But really.

"Awesome," Toby said, looking over the offerings curiously. Sushi wasn't exactly the sort of food he had a lot of experience with. He picked out a couple of rolls that didn't look too terrifying, grabbed a pair of chopsticks, and got to work figuring out how to maneuver the sushi with them.

"You know, that's a very good point? The pizza place just gave me a half-dozen pizzas, once. I'm still trying to figure that one out."

"I can beat that," Gert said, tucking her legs beside her on the couch. "Some chick gave me a bag of a couple hundred bagels recently. I still don't even know why."

Because April, pretty much.

"That's impressive," Toby admitted. "Can we chalk it up to Fandom being Fandom, I guess?"

"Only if 'Fandom being Fandom' means we're mind-controlled into being extra generous, or something," she noted. "Which I haven't noticed yet."

"Well, you could have just kept all this to yourself," Toby pointed out. "That's pretty generous." Sushi also went from good to inedible pretty quickly, but he didn't neccesarily know that.

"Yeah, but that's just me being me."

She was firm about that, actually.

"And Old Lace doesn't like the fake crab meat ones."

"Okay, noted. This isn't extra-generous so much as regular-level generous," Toby said with a nod. "At least, when we're talking about you, anyway."

"Yep, sharing my, like, hundred pieces of sushi that I got for six dollars," Gert agreed. "I'm basically a superhero."

Old Lace made a noise that might have been signalling disgust. Or she was just sleepy. Who could tell?

"Some people wouldn't," Toby felt compelled to point out. "So. Still, thanks."

"What are we watching?" Kenzi flopped down next to Toby, and grinned at him, taking some of the food he'd appropriated. "Nom!"

"I have no idea," Toby admitted honestly. Two years in Fandom meant Toby had mostly rid himself of the habit of hoarding stuff (dinner included) protectively, but there was still the slight twitch of one hand as Kenzi swiped some of his sushi. He thought he covered for it pretty well though, stretching his arm out to sling it across her shoulders.

Kenzi made up for it by handing him some dumplings, and tilted her head against his shoulder. "Okaaay... let's see. Um. Wacky twin stories?" Given how many women onscreen had the same face and all.

"And they're in Toronto. I think!" Toby said, waving at a familiar-looking shot of downtown. "Or it could be Toronto pretending to be somewhere else. I'm not actually sure."

"Why can't they let Toronto be Toronto?" Kenzi asked. As someone from NotToronto, she felt like she had to defend her home turf. "Reminds me. You up for fireworks tomorrow?"

"Oh, hello," Anna said to Gert as she entered the common room. When she noticed what Gert was eating, she paused, peering down at it. "What is that?"

"Sushi," Gert replied, starting to give Anna a funny look for not knowing before the dinosaur at her feet stirred and she remembered, oh yeah, multiversal nexus. "It's a raw fish thing. Well, this is a vegetarian roll, but the cuisine in general is usually raw fish."

She waved a hand out at the rest of the moddable sushi on the table. "Help yourself if you want some; it's way too much for one person and one dinosaur."

"Oh, no thank you," Anna said politely, then shot any possibility Gert would just assume she wasn't interested or grossed out in the foot by asking, "What's it like?"

Kind of a weird question from someone who could easily try it for herself, but some people were pretty sheltered, Gert supposed. "Soft," she offered. "Not super filling. And really addictive, even if I've had way better than this back home."

"Addictive, huh?" Anna asked, still peering at the sushi. "And fishy, I would guess..."

"Aaaaaanna," Kenzi sing-songed. "Got any plans tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow?" Anna asked. "Why, what's tomorrow? It's...a Monday, right?" Had she lost track of days again? Was there a holiday?

"O Canada... day," Kenzi sang, bouncing on the couch cushions. "Sparkle's got fireworks to celebrate!" And weed, but Anna wouldn't be likely to get much out of that. "All Canadians welcome! And anybody else, really, we just won't share the food as fast."

Of course she'd forgotten a holiday. Well. It happened. "Oh! Of course I'll be there, but...well, someone else can have my share of the food."

"Cool. It'll be on the beach, before sunset." Kenzi looked satisfied. "Let's see, you, me, Toby, Sparkle... who am I forgetting?"

"Hey, Gert." Kenzi paused, and waved to the little dinosaur, blinking. "Hey... you." Yeah, she hadn't run into Old Lace before, although she'd heard vague rumors.
