Second Floor Common Room, Wednesday Morning

There were still quite a few hours before the Jewish New Year really started, and besides that, Gert's interest in religion was super minimal, but somehow all the same, she found herself spending her morning on the couch in the common room, typing up a list of New Year's resolutions.

Gert wasn't a big believer in acting a certain way just because of a holiday, but the start of a new school year had always seemed like an ideal time to make new promises to herself and at least set a few goals. The holiday was just an excuse to do it. On the table beside Gert sat a plate of apple slices around a glob of honey in the center -- that wasn't a holiday thing so much as apples and honey just being delicious.

The first few resolutions were easy. Help some people. Check in with Nico, Kar and Molly more. After a long moment, she typed Look into colleges, though she deleted it and rewrote it about four times before she ultimately decided to leave it in.

Her first attempt at number four was Learn how to fight, but that one she did delete.

This was turning into a project.

[[open post and door! might be slow.]]

Cecil was walking back to his room...well, more sort of "bouncing" back after the high of actually getting to still do radio, when he saw there was actually someone in the common room.

He poked his head in and waved. "Hi! I'm Cecil." Oo, food. Food sounded good. He'd been briefed on the non-rules of ownership in the common rooms, so he came all the way in and headed for the refrigerator.

[slow here, too.]

"I just got here this semester," he confirmed. "I like your hair! Oo, bread!" He still couldn't quite get over the non-lethal wheat and wheat by-products. He found some butter and started in on toast.

Cecil thought about it for a minute. "I don't think so. Oh, the bread?" He beamed and leaned close to the toaster to breathe in the scent. "All wheat and wheat by-products are banned in Night Vale. It's been a while since I had any."

"I'm not keeping any in my room, just to be safe," Cecil confided. Though his roommate was a librarian, so maybe she could frighten everything else away.

"Maybe not here." Cecil shrugged. "But I'm not really much of a baker anyway. Do you cook?"

Cecil nodded. Then he took in the apples and honey. "Oh! Are you Jewish? Happy new year!"

"Oh, no!" Don't worry, Gert, he sounded remarkably matter-of-fact about it and was still in far too good a mood. "They just started turning into poisonous snakes and evil spirits."

[OOC: Crap! I knew that'd happen sooner or later. From the right account this time!]

And here was Atton, bored and well aware the good bars wouldn't open for a few more hours, wandering into the second floor common room in search of something to eat. "Couldn't find something dead to grill?" he asked, nodding at the apples before going straight for the fridge.
suitably_heroic: (dsp: ew.)

[personal profile] suitably_heroic 2013-09-04 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like there's anything in this fridge that actually came from an animal," Atton muttered, poking through some really weird pink-looking goop.
suitably_heroic: (dsp: hungover)

"Seriously?" Atton looked up from his quest to find something edible in the fridge. "He must have a funny definition of 'bread'."

"Oh, it wasn't just bread." Cecil grabbed his toast. "It was all wheat and wheat by-products. Did you want the bread?" He held it out to Atton.
suitably_heroic: (dsp: oh that's disgusting)

[personal profile] suitably_heroic 2013-09-04 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Atton shot him a funny look. "...No, thanks," he said. "I'll pass."

Cecil shrugged and put the bread away, happily buttering his toast.

"You're weird," said the ex-Sith with the repressed Force powers, then turned back to the fridge.

Cecil eyed him oddly. "Why am I weird because you don't want bread?"
suitably_heroic: (dsp: ... damn)

[personal profile] suitably_heroic 2013-09-05 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
"No, you're right," Atton said, producing a stack of cheese. "Creepy is the word I should've used."

Said the ex-Sith.

"Okay." Cecil nodded.

Then he frowned, confused. "Why am I creepy because you don't want bread?"
justbeingbay: ([neu] talking)

"So, if you were curious, only having classes one day a week is a lot more boring and less cool than it sounds," Bay noted as she wandered over to the kitchen. "Hey."
justbeingbay: (Default)

[personal profile] justbeingbay 2013-09-04 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure," Bay said, snatching up the treat. "I'm taking live performance and literature. They're both tomorrow. What did you take this time around?"
justbeingbay: ([neu] thinkyface)

[personal profile] justbeingbay 2013-09-04 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"I might," Bay mused. "I hear Baltimore has this great museum of outsider art and it's getting a little sad I haven't made it there yet."
justbeingbay: ([neu] eager)

[personal profile] justbeingbay 2013-09-05 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
"That is an excellent idea," Bay nodded. "Wanna go Friday, or should we wait for next week?"
