Fifth Floor Common Room, Monday evening

Jessica settled in the common room looking to take her mind off of her recent troubles. On TV tonight there was football and tennis and supposedly real housewives and Storage Wars and so on. None of it actually good, as far as she was concerned. And if she was going to watch something that wasn't good anyway, she was going to to watch something horrible.

That was why she sought out The Proceeding. And she was going to... well, not enjoy it, because her sense of irony wasn't nearly refined enough for that. But she was going to turn her brain off so she didn't sprain something and she was going to eat popcorn, and she was going to enjoy that.

And there wasn't anything you could do about it. If you were looking to do something about it. Why would you do something about that? Did you hate people who enjoyed themselves? Shame.

"Technically, yes," Jessica said. "But they don't seem quite as hot when they're this whiny and don't close their mouths ever. They're just trying to always look surprised and it comes off more like they're mouthbreathers."

"I needed an evening where I could let my brain rot a little, but I still wasn't desperate enough to watch reality shows," Jessica explained. "Also? To mock."

"Truer words, my friend," Jessica said. "So what are you doing alllllll the way up here? Not just stealing our fifth floor food, are you?" She saw the Pop-Tarts. Mostly because it wasn't being hidden at all.

"Pretty much," Bay said, with absolutely no guilt. "Besides, do you know how boring only having one day a week of classes gets? Sometimes you just have to go hunting for signs of life."

"I wasn't going to fault you anyway, but one day?" Jessica asked. "I don't know what I'd do with that much free time without classes, but I'm pretty sure I'd start by looking for a wrong crowd so I could fall in with them."

She was friends with Cade and Atton. She already knew the wrong crowd.

"Yeah, it was an experiment that sort of failed," Bay said. "I have a job and online stuff, but it's not the same. Also, I didn't know there was a wrong crowd in Fandom."
