Fourth Floor Common Room, Sunday Late Afternoon to Evening
It was the autumnal equinox, the day when summer died, and it might not mean much to most people here, but it meant a lot to Vider. She'd found the right channel on the TV, though she had to hit the remote a few times to get it to show up.
On the TV screen, they were building a bonfire. A little before sunset they would light it, and then would come Baldur the Beautiful. The spear would pierce his heart and he would die, and the summer with him, and they would gather his ashes up and keep them safe--extra safe, after last year--until the spring when he and the light would be reborn. It had always been this way. Vider just hadn't known Baldur before, and it didn't seem to matter that he barely remembered her, and was kind of a jerk, as it turned out. She still felt the ritual more deeply than she ever had in her life.
((Open common room is, of course, open. We get a lot of info on the rituals surrounding Baldur's resurrection but very little on the flip side, so I'm keeping it vague. But if you want Vider to explain why a guy's getting speared on live television this is the place.))

"We expect the god in just a few minutes, as sunset approaches," the news anchor said, like everyone didn't already know that part, too. "I swear they just talk to hear themselves do it," Vider grumbled.
