The vending machine full of guns was still there.
Flick had stopped to actually look at the selection after he'd finished up his classes for the day. He was pretty flush from a day spent looking for the money that was popping up across the island so he had enough to afford something in there. He just wasn't sure if that was something he wanted to do. He'd always been more the type to use his hands or whatever was convenient (bat, pipe, box, whatever). Guns just weren't his thing.
But, this machine had to be there for a reason and with all the other weird things that were going down, he figured protection wouldn't go amiss. So, Flick guessed he was gonna do this. It was making him twitchy just thinking about it but still.
Had to be done. He pulled out some money and kept his eyes on the selection of guns, trying to figure out which one he might be able to deal with. He'd have to explain this all to Jude at some point, he knew, but whatever.
Time to buy a gun.

"I've got one of those things I'm looking to get rid of, if you're that desperate, man," he said. "Buyer's remorse and all that. I don't trust it."
He'd lived on the island long enough to know better than to trust most things that seemed a little too convenient.

"Buyer's remorse," he repeated with a slight snicker, looking back at the selection of guns in front of them. "Not desperate, though. Just wondering if I should be prepared for whatever might be about to happen."

"Why'd you buy one then?" he asked, curious. "Compulsive purchase?"
no subject
He held his backpack out at arm's length, looking kind of disgusted by it.
"The idea of a machine just spitting out guns for next to nothing was so fucked up, I had to know, you know? I'll probably dump it off at the arms place or something."
no subject
And not while sitting in his dorm room or having coffee or something.
"But, thinking about it your way, the convenient money does feel like a setup where the guns are concerned."
no subject
Ever. At all. He'd chuck it in the garbage, but that would probably end up accidentally killing a garbageman or something.
"You really want a weapon, it's not like there aren't people around here that can get their hands on 'em, you know? Friend of mine handed me a blaster once, like, this laser thing, for taking shots at sharks? And he got it off another friend. Hell, the shooting range has weapons, and there's nothing stopping us from walking off with those if we need to. And if shit gets real out there, the weapons shop is usually pretty good about selling 'em. They don't want us dead, here."

The prevalence of weapons in this place was pretty amazing. "You almost sound protective, Sparkle. I'm getting a little sentimental right now."
He was teasing.
no subject
"Yeah, yeah. Don't let it get around or anything. I have a reputation to keep up here as the kid who doesn't give a shit." Not that he was clinging to that reputation too fiercely, granted. "Besides, if everyone else ends up dead, who's gonna save my ass?"
And now he was teasing.
no subject
That was a lie. He was a lot more giving and helpful than he let on.
no subject
A beat.
"Well, I can take pot-shots with a bow and arrow from the roof or something. I've learned that much since coming here."
He had his ex to thank for that. Things he wasn't mentioning for love or money, right there.

Sparkle was sometimes shamelessly Canadian.
[OOC: Fleeing for lunch! Back in a bit!]

And he preferred to keep it that way even if he was thinking about buying a gun right now.
"Kinda silly since I did a stint in military school, right?"
[Coolness!]

Now he wanted to try. He could just cite 'self-defence' and people would be okay with that!

Which was a castle. Not really normal.
"I don't even know why they bother with that sort of thing, but I guess presumably there are gym classes now and again or something."
no subject
"I like the gym," he said, shrugging. "Gives me a place to beat on things. And occasionally people. But that's a lot more rare than I'd like."

He wasn't really a fighter. That didn't change the fact that he was inclined to throw a punch now and again just to prove a point.
no subject
"Guess it would be a good way to relieve stress," he added after a moment. "I guess with the lack of fighting here, you're just left with sex to relieve stress."
Oh, Flick was sure there were other ways but he wasn't a drinker and didn't do drugs so...fighting. And sex. And stealing, of course.
no subject
"I guess that depends who you are," he noted, shrugging. "Most of my ways of relieving stress tend to get me into more trouble, go figure."
no subject
So far. And he knew he was kind of asking for it with saying that.
