Mordin was celebrating the arrival of a new year on his temporary home by flicking through articles from back in his own time on his omni-tool. Krogan aggression, krogan threats, krogan growth. Growth should be impossible; the genophage should prevent any rise in population, but there it was. Plain as census data (not that Mordin fully trusted any census data from Tuchanka--they were not meticulous information-gatherers by any stretch of the imagination.) Salarians weighing in, turians weighing in, the council weighing in and begging the krogan to keep the peace and stop with ceaseless petitions for expansion.

Troubling. Very troubling. Every article was careful not to mention the Krogan Rebellions, but the implication hung heavy over all of them.

Mordin sat in the quiet of the common room and read about the disquiet of home with uneasiness growing in him.

"Hey, shower guy!"

That would be Topher's charming greeting as he sauntered in and flopped on a couch close to the door... and then promptly got up again to walk over to 'shower guy,' because it looked like Mordin had a shiny, interesting piece of technology with which Topher was not familiar. "What's the arm thing? Alenko has one of those."

"Omni-tool," Mordin answered simply. "Common in our universe." He held his arm out a little to give Topher a better look in way of greeting.

"It's so compact," Topher admired, clearly impressed. "What're you doing on it?"

"Reading news. Though useful for data collection as well as extranet connection." Mordin waved the tool over Topher and looked over the results. His identity wasn't registered, which was unsurprising, but basic information like his species and mass were measured and saved to the device.

"Can even be outfitted with weapons mods. Not this one, of course."

"Military-grade ones, I guess," Topher mused, nodding. "I like it. You don't even need huge pockets or anything. I mean, unless you don't have an arm, I guess."

Mordin nodded. "Could be outfitted for different bodies, though. Hanar have tentacle units." He pulled up a photo of a hanar in case Topher didn't know what he was talking about.

"Huh." Topher considered this. "You could theoretically get a belt version and use it to text in class."

"Or use to take notes," Mordin offered in a helpful tone, because he was blissfully unaware that someone might want to not pay attention in an educational setting.
