Fourth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

Cold weather didn't really bother Vider that much even before she became a berserker, being of pure Scandan stock and all, but there was cold and then there was cold. In light of the current situation, she'd decided to order in rather than venturing out in search of food--yes, the delivery person had to half-freeze, but at least they were being paid for it. She didn't know her way around the various different cuisines here that well yet, so she'd picked a few items off the Chinese place's menu and hoped for the best.

Her hopes had been rewarded when the guy handed her way more food than she'd ordered. What was she supposed to do with all of this?

((Open common room is open!))

"Not remotely," Eleanor said. "Four decades in the past, and a city under the sea. We didn't get much take-out in Rapture."

She couldn't help laughing. "Do we know why modern science is bent on shrinking corn?" she asked. "They could be weaponizing it."

"The reasons are twofold," Jessica said. "First, modern science just likes shrinking things in general. Second, this is America, and we use corn for everything. Including our Chinese food."

"Because of all the farm land?" Eleanor guessed. "That would make for inexpensive corn, though I thought you were more of an industrial economy after the second World War."

Eleanor had not had many (or, well, any) friends as a child. Eleanor had instead ingested large numbers of encyclopedias. That was why Eleanor talked like this.

"You're right. But give an industrialized society enough time and money and it'll start trying to do goofy stuff for the hell of it," Jessica explained. "And thus, tiny corn."

"The novelty factor," Eleanor said, nodding. "Overly big corn isn't as amusing."

And then, because she was actually starting to learn something about conversations, she added, "Where is it that you're from?"

"New York. Present day, but crazy nutso world," Jessica said. "The kind of world that actually would weaponize tiny corn. I'm Jessica."
