the deck: tuesday afternoon
Nathan wasn't really used to heat like this. It got warm in England but never like this. He didn't know if he liked it or not. It made keeping himself covered up difficult without sweating and sleeping outside with the heat pressing down on him sometimes made it uncomfortable. He still preferred being outside to being inside but he had to admit that air conditioning was pretty nice.
After the new discoveries of last week (the swimming and the alcohol), Nathan was taking it a little more easy this week. The deck chairs were comfortable and the heat wasn't too bad right now. He'd still stopped wearing the heavy hoodies and gloves even if the tattoos still made him self conscious. He didn't even care about the scars on his wrist when compared to the tattoos.
He was still wearing sunglasses though because while they helped cover his eyes, they also kept the sun from bothering him there. One good thing, at least. It also made it easier for him to disguise the fact that the book he had in front of him wasn't being read at all. Everything was just a jumble of words and he didn't even know why he was trying. There were letters that he recognized and he could make the sounds but his brain couldn't make the connections into words.
It was frustrating and embarrassing. Nathan was a better swimmer and a better alcohol drinker than he was a reader and that was ridiculous. He felt dumb and felt like he was letting his father and Gabriel and Annalise down each day he remained here.
