fourth floor common room: sunday afternoon

One reason that Nathan was glad to be back in the dorms was that the walk back from the preserve was a lot shorter. He didn't have to take a ferry and it meant he had more time to do things like flopping down in the common room to eat a late breakfast and work with his newly received tablet. The reading wasn't going very well but he'd gotten pretty good with using the apps that played movies and television shows. He couldn't really pick a favorite but the cooking shows he found were pretty fascinating.

The common room television was off but Nathan's tablet was on while he watched an older woman bustle around her kitchen while she talked about what she was making today. Every so often he took a bite of the omelette he'd made himself but most of his attention was on the show and trying to remember the various ingredients and instructions so he could maybe give the meal a try later.

He had a brief thought of what Celia or Arran or Jessica or his grandmother would think of right now, using technology and not worrying about if people saw his tattoos or his scars. Jessica would try to kill him considering she was a Hunter. Celia would probably be impressed but she'd keep that to herself. Arran would want to play with the tablet and his grandmother would...well, he wasn't sure.

Nathan sighed and put them out of his mind. He couldn't think of them now. They were gone and he was here.

"Neither do I, as you yourself stated," Ichabod retorted sarcastically, "But that does not mean it is an unusual situation for someone from my time, as well as yours, I assume."

Edward rolled his eyes. "You think my parents have the time and coin to arrange a chaperone for me?" he said.

"I still assume your parents didn't let you share a room with a girl you are not related to, as seem to happen here." Look, at least he had some faith in Edward's parents.

"Is this your way of telling me you're a virgin?" Edward said.

Please don't, Ed.

"I don't see why that has anything to do with this conversation, nor how it is any of your business," Ichabod said coldly. He was not going to sink so low as to compare amorous exploits with Edward.

"You're the one who brought up this business in the first place," Edward reminded him.

"I did not," Ichabod stated firmly. "I brought up matters of manners, taste and social custom, not boasting about one's experiences with women or lack thereof." If Edward couldn't see the difference, then that only confirmed Ichabod's judgement of him.

"No, you're hiding behind prim prattle because this is the first time you've had the chance to speak to a woman without someone lurking over your shoulder," Edward said. "And now you're afraid you don't know what you're bloody well doing."

"Oh, I see you have great powers of deduction," Ichabod replied sarcastically. "I am sure you could tell me all about how I ought to behave since you clearly are such a fount of wisdom."

"I'm not the one who seems to think there ought to be rules to how men and women behave," Edward said. "Or that it's such a terrible thing to talk about, for that matter."

"I do in fact find it quite bad-mannered to insinuate lack of experience with women," Ichabod replied. "And I haven't noticed that there is much change in that even in this time." Nor had he noticed the opposite but that was beside the point.
