3rd Floor Common Room, Wednesday Morning

"Nothing left to break, my life is in a thousand pieces, million reasons, why should I keep myself away? Hard to define; it always is. It's hard to scream with your throat full of glass."

Dante was humming, bobbing his head along and maybe even shifting his movements some in tune with the music in his head as he wandered around the common room with a bowl full of cereal. If there was anything funny going on with the island, he didn't know; it wouldn't be the first time he'd gotten a song stuck in his head, and it wouldn't be the last. Considering he'd been listening to this CD just last night, it wasn't weird.

He kept on humming, too, as he nudged the fridge open with his foot and dipped his head in to see if there was anything good he could poach. "T-t-t-tthuh..."

[[ open, with a minor patch of SP in an hour or two. ]]

Ada just laughed. "They say little girls are all sugar and sunshine; well, I was made of ticket stubs and carnival glass. Play to win, follow the lady -- A dollar and a quarter for an all-night pass."

Ada did not believe in shame, or pity. She was a Miller and a mermaid's daughter; there wasn't room for either in her life.

"A ticket to the freakshow if you please,
I've gone and caught my heritage just like a disease.
There's no vaccination for what's bred in the bone.
The angels take the good, the devil takes his own.

They say little girls should be seen and be silent;
Well, I'm screaming loud enough to turn back the wind.
Miles to go, no rest for the wicked --
I guess I'm just my mama's daughter in the end."

Ada did spare a sympathetic glance towards Dante as she pulled her feet up under her and balanced on the counter to keep looking for food. Involuntary singing sucked, and it was empathy, not pity.

Not that it kept her vocal chords silent.
"I am dancing in the moonlight, I am beauty with no heart;
I am stories told by twilight, I am torture as an art.
I am happy ever after left to sour and turn to dust;
I am madness, I am laughter, I am nothing you should trust.
I’m a pretty poison apple hiding something dark within,
I’m the thorn that blinds the princess, I am hiding in your skin, I am...
I am...

I am the hidden, secret garden;
I am the lock that steals the key.
I am the crime that has no pardon;
I am sum and whole of me,
I am...

Absinthe in an open wound,
I am ashes on the wind,
I am Snow White stained and fallen,
Drop your guard and let me in
."

"UGH!" Ada threw her hands up in the air, grabbed a fruit roll-up out of a box, tore it open, and stuffed it in her mouth to shut herself up.

What else was a mermaid with identity issues suppose to sing about? Dinglehoppers?

"Nah, duct tape hurts too much when it comes off," she said after she swallowed her emergency silencer-food. "Maybe start drinking, set up a sleepover with more truth or dare and kissing games to keep our mouths occupied?"

"We can put up a sign: Can't stop singing? Join our party - free kissing if you start singing."

"Or we could make a fortune at just a dollar a kiss..." Ada mused. "Especially if it was all pretty people. This place does seem to specialize in pretty people."

"I think you underestimate how many times people are willing to kiss," Ada said dryly. "But if mine is good in theory, how do you suppose we put it into practice?"

Ada hummed thoughtfully, tilting her head to the side and considering. "I can't say I'm opposed to the idea on principal," she offered cheerfully, "--but I don't kiss people that I don't know their names."

"M' Ada, by the way."

"'S pretty easy to not know everyone, when you only have a few classes a week, I guess," Ada said easily. "So if I start singing again, Dante, can I count on you to help me stop?"

"Cross the key, maybe?" Ada offered. "Though I apologize in advance; I haven't kissed a boy before, so if I'm doing poorly on stopping the singing, you'll have to help me out."

Fist kiss with a boy, Dante. Alana had already broken that first kiss curse well and good during spin-the-bottle, thank you very much.

Ada didn't have to answer, the singing curse did it for her. "Kisses like whiskey, it gets me drunk--."

Uncle Chester would be pissed. Ada didn't particularly care.

Oh, the song tried to put up a decent fight -- it got maybe another bar or two out -- before Ada was far too busy doing things like 'enthusiastic kissing' and 'remembering to breathe sometimes' for her vocal chords to do anything Not Approved By Management.

Gold star, team. You've found the best way EVER to combat the singing.
