Fourth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Morning

Cassandra clomped into the common room still wearing her full armor: she had just done her rounds of the island, and then engaged in some sparring at the salle. Soon, she would retreat to her room to take off the armor and perhaps begin taking her daily notes, but for the moment, she felt she had earned a moment to sit.

And so it was that a heavily armored butt hit the sofa. She sighed, took off her helmet, and pulled her ponytail free from where it had been wedged against the lower plates.

She set the helmet down on the table. Then she glanced furtively into the hallway, ensuring no one was there before she produced a thin volume from somewhere between the plates. There were hearts on the cover. And swooning.

Shh. She didn't want Gwen to make fun of her again.

As she had no classes today, Lucille was exploring the dorms, peeking into the other common rooms and making sure she found her way around. On the fourth floor she noticed a girl, in full armour like some Joan of Arc, reading a book. That was strange, but in a less off-putting way than many of the oddities here, and at least the girl shared her interest in literature.

"Excuse me?" she said, waiting in the doorway. "May I ask what you are reading?"

Lucille knew what that meant. She had done it herself many times, and she could have told Cassandra it never worked.

Of course it made her curious. What kind of books were embarrassing to read in this place?

She smiled at Cassandra, entering the common room, and said: "My name is Lucille Sharpe. I'm a new students, and we haven't met, I think."

She was fairly sure she would have noticed a girl in armour.

"Thank you, and no, I don't believe it has, possibly apart from the kitchen," Lucille replied, pleased that the girl had manners and so far wasn't being patronizing about adjusting to things.

"Have you been her long?"

Don't worry, Cassandra. She would ask about the book soon enough.

Well, she wasn't carrying around a pig, taking photos with tiny machines and so far she wasn't dull and unable to hold a conversation. That counted as good for Lucille.

"I've been told it can be," Lucille nodded. "I expected to go to school, but certainly not in the future."

"Yes, I when I left my home it as 1885," she replied, offering a polite smile. "Is your world at all like this one?"

"Oh?" Lucille looked pleased. It might not explain why Cassandra wore armour, but she approved that not everyone looked like they were walking around in their underwear, or worse.

"So, is that book from your world?" She nodded at the book on the table. It was almost funny to use the expression 'your world'.

Being up and about for a few hours now, Laura had taken the time to run a few laps around the island, as well as scouting the place for optimal places to do... things. Hide. Stalk people. Vantage points. Coffee shops? That kind of thing.

Entering the common room to find someone in full plate... well, there were weirder things.

"Good morning", Laura said, nodding as she moved to serve herself some water. She didn't seem to notice the book, or mind it at all.

Laura blinked at the book hiding. "I can leave if you prefer to read alone."

Like, totally offering that, knight-lady.

"That's one way of putting it," Lucille said with a snort. "But I've been told I will adjust." She sounded as if she thought this unlikely.

"A shop? There is a bookshop?" That was exciting, and Lucille decided to find it as soon as possible. But now she reached out for Cassandra's book instead, because clearly it was embarrassing in some way.

Lucille studied the girl. She didn't recongize her, but that was true for most people still.

"Good morning," she greeted with some reserve.

Lucille pulled back her hand, making a point of frowning. "Not good? Then why are you reading it?"

Laura was halfway her first glass of water when the other girl greeted her, so she just nodded as she finished drinking. She was dressed in your usual running attire; skintight leggings and top, with running shoes (obviously). All black, obviously. Despite the weather outside, Laura looked a bit worked up, cheeks bit redder than her skin color.

"I am Laura," she added as she filled her glass again. "Nice to meet you." Just going through the paces.

Leaning on the kitchen counter, Laura looked at her plainly. "I like your armor." It looked like the real deal, not the sort of thing men imagined women wearing.

Those... clothes. If Laura was the kind of person who paid attention to such things she was being judged.

"I am Lucille," she replied.

[identity profile] ungue.livejournal.com 2016-01-05 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
She absolutely wasn't. Her everyday clothes were all leather, black jean and different Goth-related things that she had been picking up ever since she left the Facility. Some of it still reflected her... less respectable days.

"You are one of the new students too", Laura said, a statement more than a question. "Have you had classes yet?"

That was direct.

"I am," she confirmed, making no effort to be polite herself. "And I had a class yesterday. What about yourself?"
