Fifth Floor Common Room, Thursday evening

It started with one pizza. The delivery guy said hi and handed Mayday a pizza with "most of the works." She told him she hadn't ordered anything. He told her he didn't care, he just had to give the pizza to someone on the fifth floor. She tried to pay, but he said it was paid for and left.

Five minutes later, the delivery guy came back with a pizza with "most of the works" and no memory of the first time this happened.

Five minutes later, he came back with another pizza. The fourth time, the delivery guy said it was a cheese pizza. Mayday took it and added it to the collection on the table and said, "Why is this one different?"

There was no response, and by the time she turned around, he was gone. The only thing that remained was the vague sound of wind chimes. And then she looked back at the pizzas. All of them were cheese now.

So that was weird. But there was plenty of pizza?

"But you can't really hide your personal stuff in the communal fridges," Mayday said. "And by that, I mean probably beer or something."

"People have beer?"

And to think, she'd been so proud she knew about the pizza delivery.

"It's a pretty safe bet," Mayday said. "This place doesn't seem as strict as my parents were probably expecting."

"What did they expect?" Rey asked.

"A progressive school in a quiet small town," Mayday answered. "We were kind of right?"

"From a certain point of view, yes," she agreed. "With some... additions."

"Like magical deliverymen and moving around in space," Mayday said. "I've totally seen that kind of thing in school before." She had not, of course. It was a joke.

"And if your parents ever find out what it's like here, maybe you can convince them of that." Ha.

"I mean, they'll find out eventually," Mayday said. "Hopefully someday when the island is back on Earth so I don't have to explain that part."

"Unless maybe they really think space might be a plus?" You never knew.

"About three weeks later, my dad would probably think it's cool. But it would take a while. He's pretty protective," Mayday said.

No, Rey wasn't even a little jealous. Really. "That's good, though."

"For the most part. And he's not overprotective most of the time. Not after my first semester of high school when my mom got him to stop giving death glares to any boy who talked to me," Mayday said. "But space is bigger than all the boys who might try to talk to me."

"This is true. Since space is infinite and no one has that much time to glare," Rey confirmed.
