Third Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

With his classes for the semester finished, Thorin was a bit at a loss with what to do with himself for the next week. Further attempts to return home had continued to result in failure, which left him in A Mood.

One that was not lifted even by watching these 'Olympics' that everyone seemed so interested in.

And yet he continued on watching. Hey, look at him fitting in! Kinda.

Lucille returned to the common room after her library shift to make some tea and perhaps, if she managed to find the right channel, watch an opera. All technology might not be useful, but some of it made enjoying music so much easier.

Of course she found Thorin watching stupid games.

"Good afternoon. What are those stupid games you're watching?"

"I will quite easily express my surprise that you do." She wasn't even being sarcastic. "There are no swords involved, are there?"

"How sad that I missed that." Fencing might not have been that terrible, but Lucille wasn't going to admit that. "I came here to watch opera."

She held out a hand for the remote.

Lucille still held out her hand. "Do you even know what it is?"

Dwarven opera sounded a little scary, even to Lucille.

"Well, do you think this is better?"

Lucille should have considered that Thorin now would claim he did.

That he didn't immediately disagree with her was a bit of a surprise, but as he asked, Lucille would offer a sincere response. Sadly she couldn't answer the question.

"It depends on the opera," she said. "I don't know which one they choose to show today. They are often about passionate love and death, although there are comedic ones as well."

"Those are the ones I prefer as well."

Lucille still held out her hand.

Lucille switched through the channels and finally found the right one. She smiled. "This is beautiful."

There was blood, knives, madness and wonderful music.

"Serviceable?"

"What kind of opera would suit Dwarves?"

Lucille would probably also enjoy an opera about the Noldor, if she knew about them.

"There are plenty of operas set in the past. Including this one."

Kinslaying of Elves would make a good tragic opera.

"Then we watch this." Lucille took a seat on the couch.

"I will," Lucille replied, her eyes on the screen. "And yourself?"

[In my head I had added that question.]

"I am sorry to hear that. You have told me you miss your home."

And if he left he wouldn't be here to annoy her, although there was a possibility that she would miss the irritating Dwarf.

"I miss my brother too," Lucille said sweetly.

He would never find out.

"So I understand that you miss yours," Lucille continued.

"I hope you can find some meaningful pastime while you're stuck here," Lucille said, her voice less caring than her words. "How is the mining going?"

"I'm glad to hear that," Lucille said, smiling deceptively. "It seems important to you. Although you have yet to invite me to see it."

It was so rewarding to tease him about mining.

"Oh? And why is that?" She probably wouldn't find it very interesting, but it was amusing to try and make him talk about mining.
