Second floor common room- Sunday night

After work ~~which she had totally gone to even it wasn't posted~~, Rey came back and didn't feel like hiding out in her room tonight. Instead, she'd gone to the common room to see if there was anything that looked good on TV.

There was only one thing she saw that looked remotely interesting so far, and it had left her with a very strong curiosity as to who Kanye was and why they kept talking about him.

Frank walked into the common room, clearly looking for something.

"You haven't happened to see a bottle of whiskey, have you?" Frank checked while he looked under the table. He rose to a knee and mimed with his hands, "About yay tall, looks eager to be poured into a glass?"

"No. Did you drink it already?" Rey asked.

That was not a slam, by the way. She just assumed that it was possible that he'd already downed it.

Frank looked thoughtful for a moment. "I can't say for sure, but I may have. It certainly sounds like something I would have done sooner than later, and the only thing sooner than right now than the recent past."

"What are you going to do if you did drink it?" she asked out of curiosity.

"The Boy Scouts have a saying: Always be prepared with a flask," Frank said, reaching into his jacket pocket. "It's not a direct quote."

Rey frowned. "Boy Scouts?"

She was still new.

"Ah. Not from around here," Frank said, vaguely remembering. "They're young boys who tie knots for badges. Probably do other things as well. Big fans of preparation."

"Preparation with flasks," Rey said, shaking her head. "This planet is strange."

"Oh, no, the flask is my own innovation. I'm pretty sure they just carry pocket knives," Frank suggested. It was possible that Frank was painting a much more sinister picture of the Boy Scouts than was wholly deserved.

Although on his world, they probably were terribly sinister, so he wouldn't feel that bad about it.

"I can see pocket knives being more useful than a flask," Rey said. "No offense."

"None taken as it means more flasks for me," Frank said. "Everyone has their priorities."

"Can I ask you a personal question?" Rey asked.

"Of course. But I make no promises about answering the question," Frank said.

Ringo had been out AT=ing, and was just stopping by the second floor common room to grab a bottle of water to chug on the way up to the fifth. But she paused when she spotted Rey, and grinned.

"Hey!" she called. "Rey." The little sibling she didn't check up on often enough. "How was your summer?"

"I'm still here," Rey said, keeping in mind that she didn't want to be here still. "It was fine. How was yours?"

"It's good to see you." Ringo looked thoughtful. "Mine was pretty good. Better than my Spring, if I'm honest." No one had died, for one thing.

"What have you been up to?"

"Work?" she answered, almost apologetically. "Nothing exciting, I'm afraid."

Ringo laughed. "Well, maybe you should get out more?" She shrugged. "We could go into Baltimore sometime and go shopping or something, if you wanted."

"I don't shop," Rey warned. She'd grown up in a wasteland, having gotten enough clothes to wear for this long had been fairly traumatic.

"Oh? Do you, um, not like shopping?"

"I never really did it until I got here and stores turned out to be an assault on every sense," Rey said. Again, apologetically.

"They can be a bit much, I guess," Ringo admitted.

She cocked her head slightly. "Have you tried shopping online, maybe? Though I guess that doesn't really help with getting out, does it?"

"I've heard of it, but I don't really need all that much," Rey admitted. "I make do with what I have, and as long as I can eat I'm pretty happy."

"I suppose that's a reasonable way of looking at things," Ringo admitted. "But then what do you do for fun?"

"I visit the junkyard, see what's there. I have a speeder bike. I read. I'm really not that exciting," she said again.
