The Roof of the Dorms, Sunday

Peridot was hiding.

Tiny humans freaked her out, apparently. Humans weren't supposed to be so small and excitable! Not unless they were Steven, but Steven was half-Gem and Peridot kind of figured being raised at least in part by Pearl would have that effect on anybody.

So. Hiding. Up on the roof, which, admittedly, was one of the places she tended to go in order to be alone to tinker or think or stare up at the sky and marvel at the fact that she couldn't find Homeworld's galaxy up there at all. But it was still a good place to hide, right?

She'd kind of wedged herself behind a planter up there. Which would have been a perfect hiding place if not for the shock of triangular, green-yellow hair poking up above it. Her hiding skills could use work.

[OOC: And open roof! For... more SP, but I'm expecting some little ones, and SP is life anyway!]

"Hi."

That... was a shock of messy red hair peeking up from the other side of the planter. "What're you?"

Poor Rost would be tearing his hair out right now, if he'd been here.

"A Gem," came Peridot's mumbly reply from Planter: Side B. "A well-hidden Gem, and you can't see me."

There was a long pause, and then she added, "Why, what are you?"

Well, considering Jason had come up to the roof specifically to look for Peridot, it was maybe not the best possible hiding place.

"Hah!" He exclaimed triumphantly once he'd spotted that shock of triangular hair. "Found yooooou!"

Look, Peridot never claimed to be good at hiding!

"No you didn't!" That triangular hair was ducking down a little more behind that planter. Not enough to hide it, perhaps. But some. "You found a different Gem!"

"Did not," Jason insisted. "I found YOU!"

[era_two_triangle]

"You found you? That's easy," Peridot countered, and a little green hand reached up, trying to squish her hair down a little more. Mostly it just meant that a green hand was visible over the planter, too. "I bet you find you all the time."

Jason laughed. "You're very funny," he decided.

[era_two_triangle]

There was a disgruntled gurgling sound from behind the planter, and then Peridot peered up from behind it.

"Am not."

You kind of were, 'Dot.

"That was a compl'ment," Jason said, sounding slightly exasperated. "It's a good thing."

"'m an outcast," said Aloy. Her hand was slipping sneakily over the planter in an attempt to touch Peridot's head. "You don't look like a gem."

And now Peridot was squinting, unconvinced, at the boy.

"... It is? How?"

Look, where she came from, silly wasn't a good thing. Especially not for a Peridot.

"How can you te-- hey!" One little green hand was now flailing to try to fend off the little pinkish hand that was pawing at her hair. "No touching!"

"What's that on your head?" Aloy demanded.

Still trying to touch it.

"Cause you're makin' people happy." Jason reasoned. "And that's good."

[era_two_triangle]

"It's my hair," Peridot shot back, still swatting her hand around. "What's on yours?"

She was not what one might consider 'good with kids.'

Oh.

Well.

Peridot blinked, still looking a bit suspicious, but she couldn't argue with that logic.

"I guess it is," she drawled. "But I wasn't trying to be."

"My hair and it's soft and bouncy," Aloy retorted.

Well, for some version of 'soft' that didn't involve a whole lot of washing. "Yours doesn't look like that."

"That's okay," Jason reasoned. "It's still nice and you're nice and we should go on a 'venture."

There was logic in there somewhere. If you were six.

"Hi," Mara said, climbing up the side of the building from her window.

You know, like normal kids do.

"It's made of something different," Peridot grumbled, and then reached up to poke at Aloy's hair in turn. Turnabout was fair play, right? "But it's still hair."

It would, at least, squish satisfyingly if poked at. It just didn't tend to pay much attention to things like gravity.

"On a venture?"

Peridot blinked a little at that. Okay... she hadn't ever been called nice before. Or often? It wasn't an every day thing.

"What kind of venture?"

[era_two_triangle]

Oh, stars. Now they could climb walls?

"They're everywhere," Peridot complained. "How did you get up here?!"

Jason thought about that.

"We could start by jumping off something real high?" he suggested. And if Peridot hadn't been able to guess who he was before, she probably had a better chance of figuring it out now.

Yeah, that was a fantastic hint, right there. Peridot blinked. And tilted her head. And then wondered momentarily if Jason would be safe doing something like that at such a diminutive size.

"We've already done that," she said, carefully. "Maybe instead, we could... go... exploring?"

"In the creepy forest?" Jason asked hopefully.
