Second floor common room- Friday afternoon

Rey had had every intention of at least going out to get some things before the weather got worse, but it just wasn’t stopping, and she wasn’t exactly prepared for this. And being from a desert planet, it wasn’t like she had t had to wait out bad weather before.

So instead she was in the common room with a cup of coffee, sitting by the window and frowning at the snow like that would make it stop. She had a routine on Fridays, okay, and this was not part of it.

[I also feel weird not playing her on a Friday. Open!]

Summer had drifted down to the common room, looking to make something warm for lunch, like soup or something. Seeing someone else there, though, at least gave her the opportunity to complain to something other than a wall.

"Ohmygod," she said, shaking her head as she headed over to the cabinet to see what she was working with. "This weather can, like, totally stop at any time now, and I'd be okay with it..."

"Sometimes," Summer said, "sometimes, March likes to get in, like, that one last big snow fall. Sometimes it's in April, but this is just nuts, I've never seen one like this before...So I think we can officially blame this one on the island and not just typical weird weather patterns. Maybe...And it's Friday, so I'm guessing there might be something more coming for the weekend, which just...no...no thanks. If you're going to do something weird this weekend, Island, can't it be something warm and sunny and tropical?"

"I dunno," Summer shrugged, taking down a box of pasta, then moving to the fridge, "but there seems to be a pattern. Not always; sometimes it happens on, like, Tuesday or Wednesday, and usually that's it, but if something happens on a Friday? I just feels like it's the start of something bigger that'll carry on over through the next week."

She pulled the crisper drawer open with her foot, looked down at what was available with a frown. "Like the sharknado. I could be wrong, I hope I'm wrong, but it felt like that started on a weekend and...well, maybe that was a Monday, I actually can't remember anymore, but I swear to God, if I get a sasquatch crashing through my window like that shark, I am going to lose my shit. But that time a bunch of us woke up as kids, that happened on weekend, that I remember for sure."

Thanks to crayon cookbooks on BDG's fridge...

Having collected some broccoli, carrots, some spinach, she set them on the counter and turned to Rey. "I'm gonna make some soup; you want some soup?"

"Oh, no, that's okay!" Summer said quickly, but Rey was already getting up, and she didn't want the other girl to feel bad or awkward or anything, so she amended. "I mean, unless you'd really like you could start chopping the vegetables while I maybe get the pasta and stuff started?"

She shrugged her shoulders, almost a little bashful. "I just thought soup sounded good on a day like today. And I want to start cooking more. I've been thinking of starting up a restaurant once I graduate, so I better get used to doing it a lot more than I do now."

Granted, soup was not something she planned on serving there.

Unless....jello soup....

...ohmygod. She'll save that idea for later.

Summer wouldn't hold the cuts against her; they all had to start somewhere, right? And, really, Summer's would probably only be marginally better...

"It's kinda dumb," Summer admitted as she started filling a pot, blushing a bit, but it was that proud kind of blush that came with something you loved to do no matter how dumb it is, "but it's a jello restaurant. All jello and jello-like things. It wouldn't do very well here, but I'm taking it," she click her tongue and jabbed a thumb toward the ceiling, "up there, outer space. I've got it on good authority that it might serve a very untapped niche out there."

Good authority in this case being two people and a bunch of Yuzzums, but it was a good start!

"Not yet it's not!" said Summer brightly, cranking up the heat to boil her water and adding a pinch of garlic salt because she was all gourmet now. "But just you wait. I'm going to start a whole new market they haven't even heard of out there yet."

"Thanks!" Summer beamed. That made all of five people who would possibly check out her venture. And the little bubble of blossoming success in her chest had he smiling as she tilted her head. "And, yeah, definitely, what's the question?"
somethingwithturquoise: (lol)

And Summer laughed, because she was half-expecting a softball poking at some glaring hole in her idea that she hadn't thought of yet (or that she totally had thought about but was very stubbornly, blatantly ignoring).

"It's the really wiggly one," she explained. "Kinda shakes when you move it. It can vary a lot in color and it's great to put stuff in, but that's kind of the one detail that remains true for any kind of jello: it's all wiggly and jiggly."
somethingwithturquoise: (good idea hatching)

"There....might be some leftover from my St. Patrick's Day party," Summer said, venturing a wary look toward the fridge, "but that's pretty old at this point. You won't be able to tell if the green is the jello itself or just mold. But I can make one after the soup! I always keep some boxes of the base in the common room now, but it'll take about four hours to really set. Thankfully," Summer now cast her eyes toward the outside, "we're probably not going anywhere any time soon anyway."
