Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening
Okuyasu had chucked pumpkins in class, which had made today honestly quite fun. But then when he'd gotten a mysterious package in the mail, he was extra curious. What possibly could anyone be sending him? Was it secret orders from Jotaro? A care package from Tonio?
He brought the package into the common room and set it on a counter, where he opened it to reveal... a smaller, wrapped package. But there was a note!
Hey Okuyasu,
Just because you went off to some weird American school doesn't mean I'm going to forget your birthday! This is from me and Koichi and I guess my old man too since I used his stolen money for this. Enjoy it, and write back more!
-Josuke
"...Oh right it was my birthday," Okuyasu said, realizing he was seventeen now. "It completely slipped my mind and... well nobody here knew I guess."
He opened up the package and got just a little weepy eyed at what was inside. While the gift itself was just two new gold badges for his uniform (now with studded gemstones!), it was wrapped in newspaper from Morioh and there were even some lottery tickets inside. And then, at the bottom, a picture of Josuke, Koichi, Okuyasu's dad, Tonio, and even Ronan (who did not look like he wanted to be there). That was real nice.
[ooc: Very open post! Save me, I am stuck at our call center for 2 and a half hours.]

Okuyasu made a face. He didn't like thinking about it. That hurt his brain.

"Oh, no kidding?" Prompto asked. "I just had my birthday a few days ago, too! Happy birthday, dude! I guess we're kind of like birthday bros!"
Give or take a few weeks, but, hey, Okuyasu was already dealing with decades, apparently, what was a few weeks?

He held back the 'twelve' that was in the back of his head because he didn't want to tease too hard with someone he wasn't too friendly with. A big change from his days when his brother was still around.

"Eighteen," he said, with a little snort and a shake of his head like he could hardly believe it himself. "The big one. Which is just weird, because it's not like it really feels any different, y'know?"
The whole adultness of it wouldn't really start hitting him until after graduation, and even then...
no subject
In his defense, age of adulthood was twenty in Japan.
He scrutinized Prompto for a moment. He must be one of the kids who just look super young, like Koichi.

"Official adulthood where I'm from," he offered, with a bit of sheepishness mixed in with his proud grin. "Soon as I graduate from here, anyway, and I'll finally be made a full-fledged Kingsglaive. That's, uh, kind of like the army where I'm from. Defenders of the Crown, all that good stuff. And I'm actually going to be Crownsguard, that's the king's own personal bodyguards, but, I mean, that's obviously not the case until Noctis is actually king..."
A small pause. "That's our prince, Noctis. Kiiiiiind of my best friend?"
He honestly didn't know how to drop that bit of info without it sounding like he was bragging. Which he kind of was. But also he didn't want to be? It was complicated. And so much easier with people who actually knew Noct and how he wasn't, like, a Prince prince...more of a, you know...prince.

Not that Okuyasu could really throw stones about being the sidekick friend.
"Must be pretty nice knowing what you're going to do after school, though." Okuyasu... really didn't.
no subject
And he would be absolutely mortified by this conversation.
"But, yeah," Prompto then shrugged. "It is nice. Even though I know...I have a lot of work to do. The other two guys I'll be with have basically be set for this position since they were practically born; I just came into the mix about three years ago, so there's some catching up to do."
And, you know, no pressure, or anything!!
"I've always got photography to fall back on, too, if, you know....it doesn't work out..."
He was still pretty worried that none of this was going to work out in a million years and was actually super dreading the end of next semester.

"Hey, man," he said, shoulders squaring a little, maybe shifting a little in a way that might show off those arms that he worked very, very hard on a bit more. "Big things can come in small packages, you know. Besides, I'm the long-range guy. Guns and stuff. You don't exactly need to be big to pull a trigger, dude. In fact, it's probably better to be a little spry, a little quick, people won't see you coming!"

That's how Okuyasu died that one time.
no subject
Not that Prompto would have a good track record with that as the long-range guy. It helped if a long-range guy sort of stayed at long-range, but, hey, thank goodness for pheonix down, right?
"Yeah," he said, "it's more of a stand-by-each-other's-side, group effort sort of thing? We all just kind of work together as a unit, Noct included, and we've mostly just got to watch his back."
no subject
He beamed. "I even figured out who it was even when he was pretending to be someone else."
He absolutely hadn't. He'd just gotten lucky that he punched the bad guy first.
no subject
Prompto gave him a very emphatic, enthusiastic thumbs up.
no subject
"I got lucky, I think. I didn't stay dead."
Just a fun, casual thing to drop into a conversation.
no subject
"Errm...," said Prompto, eloquently, "yeah! For sure. I mean, not everyone...does, right?"
Most people.
Most people didn't, Prompto.
Prompto shifted over to the fridge, where he hoped to find something to talk about that maybe might be a little less...you know...death</i related? "Hey," he said, pulling out a container after opening the door, "you don't think this fried rice belongs to anyone, do you? It doesn't have a name on it, I"m pretty sure that makes it fair game for anyone else, right?"
no subject
Okuyasu had some... interesting ideals about personal property.
no subject
But he still shrugged. "It was probably leftover from some delivery arriving with too much stuff anyway," he reasoned. He popped the container open to have a look at how much was inside before tilting it a little toward Okuyasu. "Want any?"

He was an absolute baby when it came to food.
“So you can save all that sauce for yourself.”

"Though I've had spicy spaghetti that really blew me away! But that's because it was made especially for me."
no subject
"Like....literally blew you away?" he asked, lifting his brows a moment before the ding of the microwave had him turning around. "Or just, like, figuratively?"
Look, the dude had mentioned not staying dead, and, you know, Fandom brought in all types....
