Okuyasu had chucked pumpkins in class, which had made today honestly quite fun. But then when he'd gotten a mysterious package in the mail, he was extra curious. What possibly could anyone be sending him? Was it secret orders from Jotaro? A care package from Tonio?

He brought the package into the common room and set it on a counter, where he opened it to reveal... a smaller, wrapped package. But there was a note!

Hey Okuyasu,
Just because you went off to some weird American school doesn't mean I'm going to forget your birthday! This is from me and Koichi and I guess my old man too since I used his stolen money for this. Enjoy it, and write back more!

"...Oh right it was my birthday," Okuyasu said, realizing he was seventeen now. "It completely slipped my mind and... well nobody here knew I guess."

He opened up the package and got just a little weepy eyed at what was inside. While the gift itself was just two new gold badges for his uniform (now with studded gemstones!), it was wrapped in newspaper from Morioh and there were even some lottery tickets inside. And then, at the bottom, a picture of Josuke, Koichi, Okuyasu's dad, Tonio, and even Ronan (who did not look like he wanted to be there). That was real nice.

"Oh, just a birthday present," Okuyasu said, being totally casual about it. "From my friends back home. And some nice stuff to remember Morioh by." He got just a little bit choked up there at the end of the sentence. "Though that's just the packing material, mainly. I don't think they planned that."

"It's your birthday?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she squeaked, flailing. "Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh, you should have said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"It was a couple weeks ago, actually," Okuyasu said, a little embarassed. "I forgot. And well, nobody around here knew anyway so it kind of slipped past me."

"But, but..................."

That was no reason to--how could he--how even????

"That's it," Nina said, hopping up. "You're getting a birthday hug at least!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Oh, okay," Okuyasu said, his face flushing just a little bit. "I'm not going to say no to a pretty girl if she wants to hug me."

He was always a sucker for a pretty face. Which was... very common at this school. "I didn't want to make a deal about it. How could I? I forgot!"

"I guess it's been busy lately," she said, which was more diplomatic than 'how do you forget your own birthday?', but really, like, the more important part was that she was bouncing on over, beaming, to fling her arms around him in a hug.

“Yeah it can be hard to get...” he stopped when Nina’s arms were around him. He hugged her back, warmly.

“Oh this is nice,” he said, potentially making it weird.

"I am a good hugger," Nina said, determinedly ignoring the potential weird that she... yeah, okay, she was deliberately ignoring the weird that comment brought about. She gave him another good squish, since it had been his birthday and all, then pulled away.

"Like, if we had hugging booths at the carnival instead of kissing booths, I'd be super down for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

“There are kissing booths at the carnivals?” Okuyasu said, surprised. “I must have missed those.”

His mouth scrunched a bit. “Not that I would need a booth to get a kiss or anything. But you’re right! A hugging booth sounds like a pretty great idea.”

"Right??????????? And, like, imagine if the hugging booth was for a charity???????????????? Save kittens by hugging people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nina would be super into that.

"Imagine being a hero through the power of hugs???????????????"

"Seems like a real safer way to be a hero," Okuyasu said. "Not that I'm not used to danger, but... hugging hero seems like a way better life."
