Had Nina planned on having a party when she'd woken up that morning?

Nnnnnnnnnnnope!

But, like, really when the gremlins had burst into her room that morning to carol at her about some harking herald singing or something like that, Nina had a) hid under her blankets and made a despairing noise because ladies were supposed to be woken by soulful serenading and not… that… and b) had started pondering ways to use this since it was clearly the method of madness that the island was going with today.

Hence. A party! Then all she'd needed was a theme, to really tie it all together, and the island did tend to lend itself to a certain direction…………… so, like, some frantic Googling (she loved the internet), some tromping about in the snow being trailed by gremlin carolers as she bought things and then, by evening, she had it all ready to go.

Okay, SO LIKE, we've got carolers, we've got (courtesy of me) hot drinks, bonbons, and various other possibly holiday related foodstuffs, and I've got SO MANY decorations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That means it's time for a party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When? Where? Right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the second floor common room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come one, come all, or else you SUPER> don't get to complain at what your common areas are going to look like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only participants gets a say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, cool. Email sent out! Now to see if anyone else was willing to help her do this or if the rest of the dorms would just be subjected to her idea of holiday decorating! Mwahaha!

And, in the corner, on the impromptu stage she'd set up for them, the caroling gremlins sang their little hearts out.

“Krismesi emnandi, Shuri!!!!!!!!!!!!” Nina echoed, not knowing exactly what it meant but context was pretty helpful for guessing. She said it right, too, but that was just her being good at languages.

She laughed, shrugging as she beamed back. “Because the internet told me pine was the way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

"It smells nice, but it's not at all like the festive season at home," Shuri said, smiling. "And excellent pronunciation. Do you know Xhosa?"

"I don't," she admitted, "I just copied you?????????? Languages are something I enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"How many do you know?" Shuri asked eagerly.

"Ummmmmmmmm, like, that depends????????????" She considered that. "I'd say I know three languages on this world really well--English, French, and Spanish. I know the basics of, like, how to ask for directions or find a bathroom in a ton more though but that's just, like, common sense, really............."

Not just for fun, though, Nina.

"I also know Vette's language, Ryl, though I'll never master that one because I don't have lekku.......... then I know seventeen dead languages in my world and a couple others here--those I learned for magic because, like, reading ancient tomes is way easier if you know the language and don't have to consult a potentially faulty translation done by someone ages ago........... and I know all major languages of my world, which is another seven or so, we don't have the linguistic diversity that this world does???????????"

Nina shrugged a little.

"It's no big deal??????????????"

... It kind of was, Nina. You were fifteen.

"It's definitely a big deal," Shuri said, looking impressed. "Ever thought of being a spy?"

Nina paused.

Really, she and Shuri were friends enough that Nina didn't mind saying that she was one. But on the other hand, they had both squirrels and gremlins in the room, and so...

"I mean, like, even I know I'm kind of loud," she said.

Which had nothing whatsoever to do with actually answering Shuri's question.

Shuri dimpled. "So are some of our War Dogs," she said.

Nina cast a glance over where a squirrel was dipping into the hot cider and glanced at Shuri, a bit ruefully.

"War Dogs are your spies???????????????"

"Among other things," Shuri said. "They're very talented at blending in, but I know my brother's stationed a few in Baltimore to watch out for me. There's probably even one on the island."

Nina's expression went speculative.

"I wonder if I could find them," she mused.

"That would probably be good practice for them," Shuri said. "Go ahead and try!"

"And, like, it's a mostly fair challenge too," she said happily. "Unless, like, they've got mind powers???????????????????"

Because mind powers were cheating.

"They don't," Shuri said. "They're just very well trained."
