Second floor common room- Wednesday evening

Don't ask how Janet had ended up on the Hallmark Channel. It's possible it was already on when she got here and turned on the TV, or maybe she'd started channel surfing and stopped too long and now she was trapped. But now there was some cheesy movie on and Janet was stuck.

This was her life until it was over.

So of course she texted Shuri, because she shouldn't have to suffer alone. Now it was terrible movie night.

There was popcorn, though, if it helped anyone!


[Open! In need of fluff today. Also I don't know any movies off the top of my head so as far as I'm concerned they are watching a composite of the worst.]

"What terrible movie have you found for us?" Shuri asked, bouncing into the room. "Shall I make popcorn?"

"You can make whatever will make this feel not awful," Janet told her. "It's Hallmark, and I'm sorry."

Not sorry enough to turn it off.

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"It will be hilariously terrible if we approach it in the right way," Shuri said. "Have I missed any key plot points? Does she work at a magazine, in travel, or as a cake decorator?"

"Talk show host! And I think all you've really missed is that all the leads were giant stars in the 90s and now they're here," Janet reported. "Oh, and those two are going to hook up, but you probably already knew that."

Due to having sense.

Shuri put a bag of popcorn in the microwave and poked around looking for other snacks. "Ooh, Pop Tarts!" she said, taking two boxes out of the cabinet.

"So they were giant stars together and hated each other, hooked up and then hated each other, or he's been pining since the 90s?"

[overparented]

"No, the actors are 90s stars. The guy's on her talk show for.... something, and they hate each other, so they have an hour and a half to sort it out and probably get married," she corrected.

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"Maybe he's the cake decorator," Shuri mused, sitting down and holding out a box of Pop Tarts. "Though then he's probably not interested in her..."

[overparented]

"Im betting he's engaged," Janet said, taking a Pop Tart gratefully.

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"Maybe she is too and we can get a double, definitely not weird, wedding!" Shuri said.

[overparented]

"Like the fiancées marry each other while these two end up together?" Janet mused.

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"Exactly like that," Shuri said, getting the popcorn. "I also bet the fiances don't get more than 30 words in the entire movie."

[overparented]

"And most of them are bitching about the main couple, since we're clearly supposed to hate them."

She hadn't even watched a ton of these, she just understood tropes.

(Even if she'd conveniently missed that one weekend.)

Shuri rolled her eyes. "I'm already rooting for Team No Lines," she declared.

[overparented]

"They probably stay together while the main couple would definitely split up after three years because that level of fighting isn't actually healthy in a relationship."

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"It's definitely not," Shuri agreed. "My parents never fought like that, and they were married for basically a thousand years."

[overparented]

"Mine fight," Janet said, "but you can tell they actually like each other."

Which was important!

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"That's important," Shuri agreed. "T'Challa and I fight, but we mostly don't mean it."

[overparented]

"Siblings are different," Janet decided. "There are times I woukd end my brother's life, but I'd do it in a loving way."

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"Oh, absolutely," Shuri said. "Speaking of, do you want to watch T'Challa shooting across a room because I maybe didn't tell him the suit he was touching was building up kinetic energy?"

Smartest baby sister was a troll.

"Yes," Janet said immediately.

[scoffs_at_tradition]

Shuri pulled out her extremely too complicated phone and scrolled until she found the video she was looking for. "Here. Also, my dress is super cute, right?"

"It really is," Janet said, watching. "I can't believe you got that on tape, you're so lucky."

Little sisters, what up.

Shuri made it run through again because there was some boring backstory stuff on the movie that they didn't care about.

"He was very cross," she said, beaming.

[overparented]

"Think I can borrow that suit for my next visit home?"

Janet, no.

Also it wouldn't go the way she expected anyway.

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"No," Shuri said, smiling. "That's just for T'Challa."

[overparented]

Janet sighed. "Maybe I can just Saran Wrap his door and get the same effect.

She would never.

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"How does that work?"

Shuri absolutely would.

[overparented]

"You wrap clear Saran Wrap around the door so he doesn't see it when he tries to walk through the door and bounces off."

...how many times did that end in bouncing, really?

[scoffs_at_tradition]

"And that works?" Shuri said, sounding delighted. "Or is this more like something from a cartoon that should work and never really does?"

She would engineer the hell of of this, Janet. Watch out.

"I don't actually know," Janet said, a little sheepishly. "It works in movies. And at the very least you can get Saran Wrap stuck to a person, which would be really annoying for them."

Shuri giggled a little fiendishly. "I have some ideas."

She just had to run them past Okoye first. She never wanted to get on the wrong side of the Dora Milaje.
