"Do you think anyone will mind us having a snowball fight on the lawn?" Elli asked, worriedly, as she peered outside and pulled on her mittens.

Nina bounced, curls flying everywhere despite the hat she was wearing. "If they do, we just hit them with snowballs even more," she reasoned.

"Nina!" Elli protested.

With a laugh, Nina spun. "It'll be fine!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop being such a worrywart, Elli!!!!!!!! Live a little!!!!!!!!"

"I live just fine," Elli murmured, feeling a bit stung. "I just don't want to get in trouble!"

Which was going to happen, though not the kind of trouble Elli was worried about. Heh.

"It's okay," Nina said, smiling. "I'll take the blame if anyone's really upset, okay?????? Holly Jollies are fearless!!!!!!!!!!"

"Well, that's not fair either…"

"Do the Snow Bunnies want the right or left side of the lawn to start with??????????"

Elli sighed, but she was smiling. "Right," she said, "because we'll have the right to win that way."

Nina burst out laughing.

Elli didn't think that they would be able to beat Nina's team on enthusiasm which meant that they were going to have to think of some way to win that was possibly a bit… underhanded…

"Maybe a two-prong attack," she mused. "Half the team can split off and attack from behind?"

“I’ll take the front,” Jules said. Her reasoning was two-fold: first, she wasn’t terribly good at maneuvering in the snow so sneakiness was right out, and second, she had flawless aim and the ability to divert anything coming her way.

Yeah, like, Nina wasn't going to worry too much about clever strats or sneaky tactics because this was just for fun!

"We hit them hard and fast and crow about our victory!!!!!!!!! The heavens will resound with our joy!!!!!!!!!"

You know who didn't have problems throwing snowballs at girls?

And Troy also didn't have a problem hunkering down on Nina's.side because he definitely did not want to be on the side opposite of Nina.

"I say we build up on ammo," he offered in a low voice, "like...a lot. And them wham. Hit 'em all at once."

Nina's beaming grin today was free and uncomplicated, even if she was going to be working with Troy.

"There's trees we can hide stockpiles behind???????" she suggested.

"I learned how to make a trebuchet in science today," Shuri said, grinning.

See, this was why Nina wasn't worried about winning.

She giggled. Wickedly.

"How hard do you think it'd be to make them for this????????"

"Not that hard!" Shuri said. "How many do you want?"

She grinned. "And you have to take a selfie of them with me to make my brother sigh."

"Consider that done!!!!!!!!!"

Nina surveyed the teams.

"Two, I think," she mused. "Like, more than that and it just feels unsporting, you know?????????"

"One for the other team, the second for the attacking candy canes?" Shuri suggested.

"I'm sorry, what??????????"

Nina hadn't been outside yet, Shuri.

"Oh, you didn't know that?" Shuri said. "There's candy cane sharks in the snow. Is that not normal?"

Nina looked deeply torn.

"That's not normal," she admitted. "But, like, I think it's pretty awesome????????"

Elli was not going to think it was awesome.

"They try to drag you into snowbanks, but they're candy canes, so they're not terribly bright about it," Shuri said.

Wayne was absolutely not hitting girls with snowballs, but sometime in the day, after speeding around the beaches and running over a fuck ton of candy cane shark, he did show up on the.lawn to watch fer a
bit an' have a dart (and, let's be real, make himself a unexpected target...) on that snowmobile he'd finally gotten a chance to test drive after he and Vette had started putting it together!

Oh, yeah. Definitely a target.

Nina gave no warning before she absolutely peppered the air between them with snowballs all aimed at his back.

Only once they were flying towards him did she laugh.

This snowball fight is going to get real wild, real soon as candy canes are going to ATTACK.

But, like, that's just going to make this more of a challenge, right? More fun, right? Right?

Jules was just enjoying this nice, normal snowball fight when she caught sight of a flicker of red-and-white out of the corner of her eye.

"Did anyone see that?" she asked.

Cam was instantly on high alert, a low rumbling growl emanating from her throat.

Look, you didn't sign up for candy canes joining this battle! Or maybe you just want to take a breather and drink hot chocolate?

IDEK I didn't plan on doing this this morning and then I got the idea and just rolled with it…
