The Deck; Monday Afternoon [04/25].
Not having any classes to go to that morning had definitely cemented it into Libby's brain that she really did just make it through her first semester at an actual school, and the whole thing had been such a wild whirlwind of experiences that she'd felt she'd only just blinked since she'd arrived her a few months ago, and now here she was. And with nothing really else to do that morning, she felt a little compelled to do something to sort of celebrate that fact. And, since they always did a little bit of a picnic back home to celebrate any big accomplishments like that, well...that's what she figured she'd do now.
The day was a little overcast, but she was confident it would hold out as she moved everything out to the deck to set up and hopefully catch anyone coming in and out of the dorms (what did most people do at a boarding school in the weeks between classes? Sleep in, maybe, she supposed, but she couldn't even imagine). It definitely wasn't anything too fancy or special, because the Hazletts didn't really do fancy or special. Just some potato salad, some coleslaw and some sandwiches, a few different fruits, a sweet potato pie, and an attempt to recreate Zo's 'Not-So-Famous' lemonade.
Like she said, nothing fancy, but they were foods that always inspired a sense of celebration and togetherness for her and her family, and she just sort of hoped that it wasn't just her and the flies around to enjoy it, but if that ended up being the case, then so be it. There were worse ways to send an afternoon.

But as he headed out, he caught the unmistakable smell of spices and sweet potatoes and soon found himself out on the deck. He smiled at Libby and gave a slight wave.
"Hey Libby! What is all this?" he asked looking at the spread.

"Wow, you made all this? It looks delicious!" Kurt's stomach may or may not have given a loud rumbling noise as he spoke.

If she stopped and thought about it for a few minutes, it actually got a little overwhelming, just realizing how big all of this really was for her.

And Kurt totally knew about the feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all. But he could only imagine how much more it was for Libby.
"What'ya say celebration for the next successful semester is over at dorms. I can do the cooking for whoever wants to stop by and celebrate!"

She actually had no idea if it was a fact or not, but it sounded like it could be, and you'd better believe she was going to research it later.

"Fresh air, amazing view, and a good friend. Sounds like the perfect picnic to me" Kurt said with a smile as he started fixing up his plate with a sandwich and some potato salad.

"Are you going to be staying for the summer?" she then asked, not really sure how all that worked. She knew normal schools were off for summer, but boarding school was different, right? Her study program still went through summer, anyway, but she half expected the place to turn unto a ghost town with everyone going home or something like that.

Grabbing some of the lemonade to wash things down with he nodded towards Libby.
"What about you? Sticking around here for the summer? I heard they offer a few classes too so I guess that is always an option too."
no subject
"But my study program with the clinic runs through the summer," she concluded, "so I'll still be around, too."

"And it doesn't sound silly at all" he said going a little more somber as he looked at Libby. "It will be the first graduation ceremony I've ever been too also, so it's all new and exciting to me as well."

If she managed to make it to that, then she'd be pretty proud of herself right there. Even if she supposed it wasn't something most kids would even think twice about.
Well, maybe not a lot of kids at other schools. Even she was starting to get the idea that this school was a little bit...different.
