Fandom High Grounds
Kurt was enjoying the break between classes and had been spending a good bit of his time handwavely working on some new recipes to see what might work for a dorm-wide cook off sometime. But he wasn't feeling like being couped up inside today and so Kurt had made his way out onto the grounds and was near the pond. He had intended to do some training and work on the new teleportation trick he had read about a few days ago. But for now, he was enjoying the day and jut being outside. There would be time to work and train later. It was too nice of a day to not take the time and enjoy it for a bit.

Libby was also of the opinion that days like this (or most days, really) were meant to be spent outside, even when it wasn't just an excuse to escape restless Littles swarming at your ankles, and was pleased to see she wasn't the only one, if the smile on her face that went with the greeting was any indication.

She tried not to think about the fact that they didn't really seem to run into each other as much these days, but they were both probably just...busy, with other things...

Kurt was silent for a moment. It had been a while since they had really talked much out of class... or at all really. He gave Libby a shy smile.
"Feel like taking a break?" he asked as he patted the grassy patch he was sitting on. "I got some stuff to feed the ducks if you want" he added holding up the bag of bread crumbs and heels he had been saving up.

Even if she did add, a little more reluctantly, "If you don't mind the company, anyway."
Because it had been a while since they'd really talked out of class, and she couldn't help wondering if it was something she'd done or said without realizing it, because she still didn't understand social cues and how people worked, but that Kurt was too nice or polite to call her out on it...
And maybe he was just being nice and polite by inviting her to join him.

"I would love the company," Kurt said with a shy yet sincere grin, almost adding a 'especially your company' to that but didn't. Instead he held out the bag for her. "Feeding the ducks is always more fun when you do it with a friend."
no subject
"I wonder," she postulated thoughtfully as she took the bag and considered the ducks, "if it makes any difference to them."
And after she dipped her hand in the bag for some crumbs, she made sure to scatter them a little bit off to the side, just to appreciate the complaining quacks from the ducks as they were forcibly required to waddle over to relocate for their meal.

Kurt gave a small smile as he thought back on his memories for a moment before turning to look at Libby.
"We used to feed the ducks all the time back home. We had chickens and ducks on our farm so it was a little different than this, but there were some wild ducks we would go see at times too. It was always so much fun."
no subject
"Those are our hunting dogs," she clarified. "I don't know if I've told you about them before."
no subject
He gave Libby a somewhat understanding smile.
"It is hard to be away from home and what you are familiar with isn't it?" he asked softly. "Have you.... have you been able to talk to them lately?"
no subject
Then she went a little quiet, like a train running out of steam.
"But not any of my siblings..."
And definitely not her father, but she couldn't bring herself to say that out loud. And sje was starting to feel a lump in her throat that she tried desperately to swallow down. Because that would just figure, wouldn't it? Here she was, finally having a nice moment with Kurt again, just feeding the ducks and enjoying each other's company, and she had to go and nearly ruin it by getting so emotional.
So she very quickly turned it toward him.
"What about you? You're always keeping up with Logan and the Professor and Storm and all of them, right? What about your parents?"
no subject
"We have been keeping in touch. They call almost every week and I've been sending letters back to the team when I can remember to" he said sheepishly. "Logan keeps saying he is going to come for a visit sometime...." Kurt said that with an expression that was half excited half worried.

But the look on Kurt's face at the end just made her laugh.
"Oh," she assured him, "I'm sure it wouldn't be all that bad. And by the sound of it, at least the local bars will end up appreciating him being around."
no subject
He gave it some thought and then gave a thoughtful nod.
"It would be fun to have him around for a bit. Any of the team really. I miss them all."

Visiting, for her, would be far too complicated, but it was probably a whole lot less so for Kurt.

He gave Libby a somewhat concerned look as his smile softened a little.
"What about you? Any plans of going back home for a visit? Or looking to have someone come here for a visit?"
no subject
It might have been fine to go visit her grandmother, but, if she was honest, Libby was half afraid that if she went home, something would happen and she wouldn't be able to come back.
"I know Zo's dying to visit, though," she allowed, gaining a little of that mirth back with her admiration for her friend.. "I'm honestly surprised she hasn't tried to just talk her parents into just letting her come to school here, too."

It was much, much easier to just focus on Zo right now, and that was what she did, with enthusiasm.
"Oh, I love Zo," she gushed. "She's amazing, she really is. But I guess I might be a little biased, she's the first friend I've ever had."
