Graham felt a bit bad about it, but he'd skipped out on his job yesterday to make himself more scarce. After all, if he was looking for an escaped slave to seek revenge for his brother, the place where that escape slave now worked would be one of the first places he'd check
So, instead, Graham stayed as hidden and on the move and hard to find as he possibly could, skulking and sneaking around to gather ingredients for spells he'd lifted from Manannan's books and spending the night preparing them under the cover of darkness.

Just like he had not too long ago, whenhe'd escaped from Manannan in the first place.

But now, should the strange wizard with the very cool outfit find him, Graham was ready. He was prepared. And the roof seemed like a relatively safe place to hide out. Maybe he wouldn't even need to use the spells! He hoped so, but all the same, pouches and stones and other little things filled the pockets of his homespun cloak, and this time, he'd be ready.

In the meantime,though, it was kind of nice that he had these really great tunes to listen to while he posted up! He'd never heard this song before, but it was great!

Kurt had actually slept in a bit that day. It WAS Saturday after all, and he WAS a teenager and all. But now he was awake and a relaxing sit on the roof sounded nice, even if Libby had been ~~handwavely~~ busy and not able to join him.

Kurt stopped short when he caught sight of Graham. He looked a bit... distracted, and Kurt almost thought about just slipping away and not bothering him, but that seemed kind of rude.

"Hey... you ok?" he asked with a small smile.

Graham did jump a little at the movement, his attention keenly focused on even the smallest movement or action, hand already reaching to grab a stone in front of him. He clutched it tight, drew in a breath to begin the incantation, then relaxed visibly when he saw it was just Kurt .

"Oh," he said, lowering his arm. "Hey, Kurt..."

And then, a sudden flash of skepticism. Of panic.

"Wait!"

He lifted his arm again, although whether the intention was to cast a spell or simply just throw it was anyone's guess.

"You are Kurt, right? No tricks? No illusions?"

Kurt looked at Graham curiously for a moment as he took a step back, surprised by the reaction his friend was giving.

"No tricks other than my usual one," he said, now worried something was wrong with Graham. "I mean, shapeshifting has always been my thing. But, it's me... really me. What's wrong Graham?"

That was more than enough to reassure Graham, and he lowered the stone once again.

"I was attacked by an evil wizard in a very cool outfit the other day," he then explained easily. "I think he might be related to the evil wizard I just escaped from. So I need to be prepared for anything, and can't take too many chances."

"Can't have that now!" Kurt said somewhat alarmed. "Are you ok?" he asked, the alarm quickly shifting to concern for his friend.

"I am," Graham assured him, with a confident nod, but then it faltered. "I think? Maybe. I should be. Probably. As long as he doesn't find me.

"But, even if he does," said now with a bit more confidence, "I've got plenty of spells prepared! I've got Teleportation." He waved the stone in his hand a little. "I've got Invisibility. I've got Fly Like an Eagle. I've got Sleep powder. I've got Brewing a Storm!"

At this point, it would almost be a disappointment if Mordack didn't show up. All that prep work for nothing!

Yeah, it looked like Graham had all the bases covered there!

"Oh, teleporting? That sounds like a really cool thing to be able to do!"

"It's a very useful spell," Graham agreed with a knowing nod. "Only, the trouble with it is, you don't know where it will teleport you. It's completely random! But so long as it's not where this wizard guy is, I don't care if it drops me right in the ocean!"

There was a pause.

"Well, maybe not the ocean," he allowed. "I don't know hoe to swim."

"Yeah... random location sounds like a bit of a drawback," Kurt said with a tilt of his head. "Ending up half stuck in a mountain or in a volcano or something sounds pretty bad. Is... is there a way to practice and get better at it, or is that just how that magic works?"

"That's just how the spell works," Graham said with a bit of a rueful smile. "It's full title is Teleport at Random. It's the only one I really had a chance to memorize; Manannan probably kept the really good teleportation spells somewhere a little safer than the books I could get to..."

"So you can learn these abilities or do the magic to make them happen?" Kurt said with a slight tilt of the head. "We don't have magic, at least not like that, back home. The powers and abilities we have are something we are born with. We can practice and get better but you cant BECOME a magician or teleporter or things like that if you didn't already at least have the ability dormant inside you."

"I think," said Graham, "you have to have some kind of innate ability to begin with, and you can definitely get better and more powerful with practice, but I only just learned a little bit ago...and I only just learned so that I could escape. All of the spells I know require components and incantations....for the teleport one, for example, you rub a mixture of mistletoe and salt over a stone, then you kiss the stone."

And, of course, Graham lifted the stone a little and kissed the air between it and his lips to demonstrate.

"And then you wave a magic wand over it and say:

"With this kiss I thee impart
Power most dear to my heart
Take me now from this place hither
To another place far thither.

"And ta-dah!" He held the stone out proudly. "Teleportion at Random! All you do is rub the stone and it'll whisk you right away!"
